BOOKS OF BLOOD is a horror anthology that consists of three stories, but they are connected.
A young student who is mentally ill and whose delusions pursue her more and more and drive her to a special house.
A mother who lost her young son to cancer and seeks hope in a medium.
And a criminal who is looking for a special book.
At first these three stories seem unconnected, but towards the end it becomes clear how they are connected.
Even within the individual stories, there are twists that I found interesting in the beginning and were not always really predictable.
It's actually a bit of a shame that the stories themselves are relatively short, because I would have liked to have seen and experienced more about the first story than the film ultimately gives.
The overall story, which envelops the three small stories, is coherent in itself, but a few questions remain unanswered at the end.
Visually, BOOKS OF BLOOD is definitely an eye-catcher in many scenes. Even if some effects are not always 100% of the very best quality, they still don't lose their effectiveness. The presentation of the Book of Blood in particular surprised me and was creatively implemented, I think.
In terms of brutality and explicit portrayal, the film is sometimes a bit harder and bloody. But there isn't much that hasn't been done in this regard.
All in all, the film has a very creative approach that could perhaps have been expanded even more.
Since I really like anthologies in general, I was happy to have found a solid one again.
BOOKS OF BLOOD is a little gem that is definitely worth looking at.
