Boxing day follows Melvin, a British author living in America, who returns home to London for Christmas to introduce his American fiancée Lisa, to his eccentric British Caribbean family. Their relationship is put to the test as she discovers the world her fiancée has left behind. This was a great Christmas rom com.

The cinematography was great. With some great themes on love, race and family that were handled in a respectful and interesting way. The performances from the whole cast were great. With key highlights being Aml Ameen, Aja Naomi King, Leighanne Pinnock, Tamara Lawrence and Michelle Rose. The whole cast also had great chemistry with each other. The film was very funny. Also, the character conflict and slow building of tension as the film developed was done strongly. With great representation for the British/Caribbean community with Melvin's family. The film was structured very well, it built up and developed different character conflicts and it all exploded in one big gathering. The characters were very likeable. With great linking between the different characters and plot points. I also thought that there was a good amount of character depth, with some great heartwarming moments and a satisfying ending.

However, it was very formulaic and had some very predictable moments. And I felt like certain plot points felt unneeded and didn't really contribute anything towards the plot.

Overall, boxing day won't win any awards for originality. But the strong chemistry between the cast, the great humour and its heart makes for a great Christmas rom com to watch for the holidays.
