Just got out of my showing of The Lost City as I wait around for my showing of Infinite Storm to start, I figured I would drop a quick review. I was going into this expecting a full on six out of ten movie and came out very pleased with how much I liked this. I haven’t had my face hurt from laughing at a movie in so long. Some movies like this fall into a trap of using their best jokes in the trailers to get people in, but this has so many hidden gem jokes throughout. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum are fantastic together. They turn in some of the best performances I’ve seen from them as they make their way through the jungle. The outfit Bullock is in for most of the movie is so ridiculous but she looks fantastic in it and it adds to some great gags throughout the movie. It is on loan after all. Daniel Radcliffe is a great actor, if you haven’t seen his work in Miracle Workers on TBS I would highly suggest you see that. Here though, he acts really well, he’s just not a good character. Brad Pitt is so funny here and I’m so glad they didn’t ruin the direction his character goes in the trailer. Da’Vine Joy Randolph gets hardcore sidelined and I really wish they had just included her in the jungle scenes with Bullock and Tatum, but what scenes she does have are great. Patti Harrison and Oscar Nuñez are in here as some fun and light characters that show up randomly here and there with some good jokes. Héctor Aníbal is one of those rare henchmen characters that you actually like. I really enjoyed the history parts of this, I was expecting it to be the typical stuff but it wasn’t half bad and took a very nice stance on history hunting. I haven’t read too many of these romance novels that they make fun of, but my mom has and I think their commentary on it is very good. I think there is potential here for a sequel and I would absolutely love to see one. I had a lot of fun here and even if you end up not liking the story you’ll appreciate the jokes on display here. I’m giving The Lost City an 8/10, I’m genuinely excited for the physical copy to release so I can add this to my movie collection. If you’ve been waiting for a good rom com, this is the one. -Tyler.
