Reviews by: @theplokoonyreview SEASON 1 For the good, the world is thoroughly explored, the character dynamics are engagingly built upon, while the animation and music are all high quality. For the negatives, the dialogue and inner monologues are annoying and there’s a mismatch of different ideas. Positive: World Building In a world of anthropomorphic animals living in modern society, lots of question can be asked. Fortunately, the show constantly adds it’s own interpretations of what this would look like into each episode, crafting a well thought out experience. The little details end up painting a vivid picture, they’re not obnoxiously presented and rather just find their natural way into scenes. Whether it be smaller classroom doors for small animals, rooms that replicate an animals natural habitats, or even the cautiously fearful attitude present in herbivores for carnivores, its well engrained in the show and becomes commonplace quickly. It’s also nice that the creators tries to keep the world as similar to our own as possible, there doesn’t have to be time spent on explaining since it’s so comparable to our world it’s easy to fill in the gaps, making for an interactive experience as well. There is one element that stands out, being the connections between herbivores vs carnivores and racism. It’s hard not to make these comparisons and racism is a difficult topic to satisfyingly write on, but it’s presented well in the show, obviously taking inspiration but also branches off into its own ideas completely unique to herbivores and carnivores. If it was a completely faithful analogy to racism, it would’ve felt like the creator was lazily putting an agenda behind their work, but by divulging into its own unique paths, it keeps this analogy so it can communicate the gravity of the situation, but doesn’t let an analogy restrain itself and branches off when it can implement its own ideas. These societal conflicts are large part of the show, it expands on them throughout and in terms of world building, ends in a very fleshed out and interesting experience. Positive: Character dynamics Even though some individual characters can be annoying when they’re by themselves, their relationships have a good structure and are entertaining to watch develop. Anyone paired with Legoshi makes for an interesting dynamic, his oddball, reserved nature compliments the rest of the cast well. Legoshi and Haru go through lots of meaningful development and the show reveals a lot about each character through their interactions. This newfound character depth keeps them interesting to the audience, while making their bond all the more powerful since they’ve experienced these powerful emotions and events together. Seeing how they have changed by being around each other is a constant in the show and this is largely well executed. The dynamic also gives the show a good chance to touch on inter species dating, it led to internal development for both characters and was a great combination of both world and character development. Legoshi and Juno’s limited interactions is one of the few aspects of the show which carried self awareness, adding in comedy that pokes fun at Legoshi absent minded nature. Seeing the show have fun with its relationship drama was refreshing, and while their offbeat chemistry wasn’t very complex and only developed Juno, it consistently did what the plot needed it to do. Legoshi and Rouis’s dynamic further emphasized the aura of superiority Rouis carried, while also hinting at the inferiority he internally felt due to being a herbivore, hateful of carnivores and their innate advantages. Rouis was a great character, being a delicate blend of righteousness and selfishness and Legoshi played a part in prompting Rouis to reveal his internal conflicts. Unfortunately. The way their relationship actually develops is underwhelming, their entire understanding of each other is based off of their ideologies, they never seem to have a realistic or casual conversation and it leads to their relationship feeling too abstract for a connection to ever be formed between the two of them. Positive: Animation Most computer animation ends up looking clunky and uncanny, especially when used with human characters but fortunately Beastars use of computer animation is heavily refined while working well with nature of the show. Whenever there are action scenes the characters move with fluidity, there’s purposeful attention to detail in each motion which amalgamates into a visually satisfying experience. The fact that these are anthropomorphic animals also ends up working fantastically with the animation, after watching Dorohedoro it became obvious humans and cg animation are hard to mix, looking uncanny rather than realistic. However, cg animation and animals seem to click, each anthropomorphic animal looks accurate to the actual one, while still carrying enough personality in each design choice to individualize animals of the same species. There’s also a surprising amount of facial expression shifts during conversations, it adds another layer of detail to each conversation, making it much easier to further understand the complexities of how each character feels in different situations. It does make me wish internal monologues were used less at points, the character expressions subtly but effectively told the audience enough information so hearing these characters go on self indulgent spiels just felt more unnecessary than it already was. Negative: The Ineffective Dialogue This show takes itself weirdly seriously, especially when considering the elements it’s handling. The dialogue has an abstract, disconnected touch to it, characters make random statements and seem as if they’re lost in their own head. The writer probably thought it sounded cool and deep, but the way it’s implemented into scenes just becomes frustrating. These moments of self indulgent tangents are presented with the upmost seriousness, acting as if everything they say means something deep when in reality it’s try hard and takes the complexity out of most characters, after all they just explain their thought process which is lazy and doesn’t make it feel like we know the character, rather it makes it feel like character is forcing themselves upon the audience. To make matters worse these tangents are so prevalent and obvious in their cheap attempts to be deep that the effect they’re supposed to have is completely lost. This lack of self awareness in the dialogue plagues the show, the writers are completely lost in their own heads and it grossly reflects in the self important nature of the dialogue. Maybe this could work if all the characters were poets, but they’re college students, having college students force their deep and introspective beliefs onto the audience couldn’t feel more out of place. This can also meddle with the plot, which will leads into the next point. Negative: A Mismatch of Different Ideas This show wants to be a lot of different things. On one hand it’s a sappy college love story and slice of life, while on the other it’s explores animal racism and hate crimes, while the herbivore and carnivore dynamic stays as a constant in both. These elements are good by themselves, but it’s the awkward combination that leaves the experience confusingly messy. The tonal shifts that come with each of these is just awkward, the college bits are gossip filled with college drama that feels more like pulpy high school drama, so directly mixing in animals getting eaten while exploring the criminal underworld is jarringly unfitting. Perhaps if the show had more self awareness about mixing these two would it feel better, and while the show acknowledges the contrast, it only acknowledges with the characters reactions but these reactions are too invested in its own world, it never questions the absurdity of it which is funnily enough the part that gains the most investment from the audience. It’s an experience that task itself too seriously, and while this may work well enough when it’s only being a college drama or only being an exploration of racism, politics and crime but the combination is too weird and disconnected to be taken seriously. Overall, Beastars has rich character dynamics, great animation and a pretty interesting world. Unfortunately, the dialogue suffers from being completely unrealistic and overly introspective to a point where the characters feel like their forcing themselves upon the audience. Combine this with an awkward combination of story concepts, it leads to a flawed experience but with enough constant positives to keep it from being bad. Entertainment rating: 7/10 Critical rating: 6.5/10 Final rating: 6.5/10 SEASON 2 Positives: The narrative smartly presents itself to be engaging and interesting The characters and their dynamics have been further fleshed out and evolved in meaningful ways Animation and music add so much to the experience Negative: The dialogue can absolutely stink Some character felt like they demanded more screen time Positive: The Narrative While the first seasons narrative was spotty and torn between developing school life and the black market, this season has a lot more focus within its narrative and the overall story is very told, staying constantly interesting. While school life is still an element in this season, it’s much less expanded on and it focuses on the dark undertones of what’s going on, instead of trying to parade itself as a slice of life its tone stays consistent in both the school and the black market. It’s also nice that the creator showed no favouritism in developing the different subplots set up, Rouis and Legoshi go on separate journeys but both journeys are given ample amount of time to properly introduce other side characters and explore inner and outer conflicts without being rushed. This leads to a very satisfying experience, but what makes it even better is that it doesn’t constantly cut back and forth between the two sub plots, exploring and essentially telling its own contained and well polished story in each scene, then cutting off at an appropriate time back to the other characters journey. The viewer is given a near perfect experience with this, it seamlessly moves between Legoshi and Rouis, both sub plots are satisfyingly explored with the same depth so it’s not as if I was impatiently waiting for one to end and the other to continue, rather I enjoyed my time with each while being impressed with how they explored both the world and characters, and cutting off at the right time so it never feels like it’s overstaying it’s welcome. How these two different character journeys intersect at the end of the season works as a beautifully poetic and brilliantly meaningful conclusion. It’s a testament to both characters, combining the underlying carnivore vs herbivore dynamic and internal conflict plaguing both, and creating something unique to its own universe but still powerful without the context. To say the least, this season is masterfully constructed. Positive: Characters The character dynamics were largely a positive in season 1, it’s also the case here but it takes the foundation created in the first season and expands on it fantastically, leading to both the dynamics they share and the characters themselves heavily improving. Legoshi still seems lost in his own head most of the time, but beneath this his characterization has a clear direction and since so much time is spent watching him deal with his struggles during his very personal journey, the audience has a much easier time sympathizing with him. His internal voice is still a bit too heavily relied on to explain how he feels, but aside from this he goes through many shifts in beliefs and these changes are well backed up by the experiences the audience watched him go through, leading to a character that now has a clear direction in terms of writing, yet he still retains his self confused and absent minded demeanour. Rouis can still be self indulgently overdramatic to a point where it’s not cool and there’s no self awareness behind it. This being said, his attitude can be better defended in this season due to the intensity and raised stakes of the situations he finds himself in. He still contrasts extremely well with Legoshi, since both of them internalize feelings for each other over the course of the season and their worldview are influenced by their shared experiences, watching them come together has a lot of emotional weight behind it, it’s much more introspective than season 1 and the fact that they end up influencing each other this much makes their bond all the more meaningful. Of course these aren’t the only two characters in the show, characters in both the Shishi-Gumi and the Drama Club (standouts being Ibuki of Shishi Gumi and Riz of the Drama Club) are given more attention than ever before in the previous season and the entire experience feels a lot more fleshed out as a result, casual side characters and seemingly one dimensional antagonists have a lot more to them this season and the overall picture this show paints becomes much more vivid as a result. Positive: Animation and Music I’ve already talked about the animation in the season 1 review, it all applies here too if not even being a bit more polished. However, there’s one thing element in the animation I didn’t mention in my season 1 review and it’s used better in this season, so this seems like a good moment to acknowledge it. The special effects used when portraying the potency of a scent is a well implemented technical feature that helps immerse the audience in how a characters feels. (SPOILERS START) When Rouis is forced to eat meat, these wafting particle effects create claustrophobic atmosphere, combined with the implications of a herbivore eating meat and the internal battle happening inside him it lead to an incredibly well executed scene with the stylistic way of depicting scents helping greatly in achieving the desired effect on the audience. (SPOILERS END) It’s used a few times as well with Legoshi, this limited use allows it to retain its effect and still feel fresh. As for the music, there’s a lot of emotional moments in this season and the soundtrack lends its beautiful, characteristically dramatic and sweetly tragic sound to these moments. The instruments during these emotional moments are all classical, their pure, organic sound makes the emotions the scenes procure feel all the more genuine. As for the rest of the ost, it’s filled with a tango-like arpeggio that would fit right at home in a 1950’s jazz bar. If livens up the atmosphere with an soundtrack that has both bite and an undeniably catchy presence. It works as a great counterpart to everything on screen, fitting in beautifully with the dramatic tone of the series while also lending itself to emotional moments. Negative: Dialogue One thing has unfortunately stayed the same since season 1 and it’s the dialogue. It’s grossly self indulgent, characters like Legoshi and Rouis try to meaningfully interpret everything that happens in the show and end up sounding like they’re always at a slam poetry competition. Many scenes are written to have poetic significance, however the subtle brilliance of these scenes is torn away with the character outright telling the audience what the underlying significance of every event is. This isn’t a very interpretive show, the underlying meaning of every scene is uprooted and proudly waved in front of the audiences faces, making the show a bit less smart than it sometimes acts like it is. Not every character does this, but unfortunately the two main characters, being Legoshi and Rouis are the biggest culprits of this so it’s hard to escape from and even though their actual characterization is fascinating, their dialogue makes it less fascinating. Also, the inner monologues go in so many different directions and lack any real self awareness. When characters are spouting a bunch of complicated sentences that sound smart, they begin to not sound like high school students, or even worse they begin to sound like high school students with an inflated and self important ego. What I’m trying to get at is the dialogue is stinky. It’s still an improvement from the fist season, it’s used less in this season and sometimes it’s even justified. However, this does not stop it from reeking and it holds the show back from getting anything above 7.5 for me. With better dialogue, this season could be between a 8-8.5 for me. Negative: Underuse of Characters This will be very short since this is only the case with a few. The snake character helped kickstart Legoshi’s arc, there hasn’t been a snake before in Beastars and it seemed as if the snake wanted to stay informed on Legoshi’s investigation. So it was strange that she appeared for 1-2 episodes and disappeared for the rest of the season. Her dramatic and lengthy introduction, plus her early importance in the conflict made it seem like she would continue to stay as a factor, but now it just seems like the writers wanted to put a cool snake in the show for the novelty. Also, Juno was a big element in the later half of the first season and none of that carried over. It seemed like she was flirting with the tiger right at the end of the first season, they don’t have any dialogue together this season. It seems like she just exists just to get flustered by Legoshi, this is fun to watch but it feels like an underuse of a character, especially one who’s a contender for becoming the next Beastar. While I’m here, I’d also like the clarify I’m very happy that Hal did not have a very big role in this season. It gives more time to focus on Legoshi, this independency helped him take on an interesting character journey without any restraints. Not to mention the borderline sex scenes between Legoshi and Hal were not fun to watch, this isn’t subjective at all I’m just happy there’s no wolf x bunny. Overall, this season was a great surprise. Due to its effortlessly engaging and slickly polished narrative it was easy to get pulled into this season. Combine this strong, well explored characters that go through meaningful journeys and incredible animation and music, this is a heavily enjoyable experience with a lot of critical merit. The dialogue is still a constant problem and some characters got pushed to the side, but this doesn’t destroy the experience at all and it ends up being a really great experience. • Marriage Story: Splitting Feelings

Marriage Story is bittersweet. Revolving around a painful divorce, this film finds the beauty and love hidden behind that pain. Although these combating former partners are no longer right for each other, they still mean a great deal to one another. Marriage Story examines the complexities of relationships, the shortcomings of our divorce system, and the process of rebuilding. It expresses extreme emotional vulnerability yet finds moments of genuine levity as well. Plus, the performances of Johansson and Driver (and Dern) are absolutely electric, making Marriage Story a perfect storm of relatability and empathy. Viewers are guaranteed to feel something. Meanwhile, the careful craft behind Marriage Story highlights its strengths. The reserved editing holds on actors for extended lengths, letting their authentic performances erupt uncut. The cinematography uses physical barriers to symbolize emotional distance, while maintaining an unrefined style that feels intimate and natural. The music is minimal (allowing focus to remain on the actors) yet distinctly fits the melancholy tone. Similarly, the sound design is quiet, helping the emotional beats echo loudly. Lastly, the direction unites these aspects into a delicately balanced bittersweet mood that strikes the heart. Overall, Marriage Story is an emotional masterpiece. • Skins: We're Just Products of Bad Parenting

Reviews by: @the_owlseyes “Your children are not your children. They are sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you. And though they are with you yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For thir souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the make upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness. For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He also loves the bow that is stable” Kahlil Gibran PLOT "The story of a group of British teens who are trying to grow up and find love and happiness despite questionable parenting and teachers who more want to be friends (and lovers) rather than authority figures" or "Teen Drama's started being more grounded and serious after this series". SCRIPT I like the fact that series focuses on the outcasts and tries to explain to us why teenagers and adults have problems and shows us the consequences of them. I like that all the characters are defined by choices, made by them or the people around them, rather than birth. We can emphatize with them and understand their struggles. There're characters who have genuinely heartbreaking archs and others who are slaves of their addictions, past sins or, simply, society itself. This series manages different constrating themes in a decent way without making it uncomfortable for the viewers, even though there're some shoking scenes. Nonetheless there're a lot of flaws. Like characters which are blurs, defined by just one trait or one function, like token characters. Cliches which are subverted, created and verified by the series, like the death of one character, the revolution of one's personality from a season to the next and some random events which seem conjured out of thin air. The worst thing is the fact that the series catch up with a totally different company of friends which is in no way comnnected to the previous one and that is the main reason I consider this series overvalued. The best season is undoubtedly the third one and the worst one is the sixth. The seventh looks like an apology for it and it fails to deliver for most of it. Just Cook's episodes saves it and I think that they're the best ones. The series should've evolved during its run, instead it kept things stale and repetitive becoming a parody of itself. Overall I just think that it's ok and acceptable. Sufficient to the point of boredom. Script: 6/10 ACTING It's a mixed bag but I think there're just a few actors who deliver a decent performance, like Nicholas Hoult's Tony, Hannah Murray's Cassie, Joe Dempsie's Chris and Jack O'Connel's Cook. Kaya Scodelario is good just in the third season but she isn't consistent. I consider her overvalued sincerely. Dakota Blue Richards is ok but not remarkable. The others are just there to do the job. There're also some notable appearances like Olivia Colman as Naomi's mother. That's all. Acting: 6/10 PHOTOGRAPHY For six season is bad, because the colors are oversatured and the light is too flat. There aren't beatiful shots till the last season, where we got a more careful and professional photography. Overall I didn't like it, even though the seventh season presents an attempt to break free of the past mediocrity. Photography: 5/10 EDITING Unoriginal and uninspired, sometimes it uses a slow motion which is cringy as hell. I would say that it's stale because it doesn't show a thing which makes me think that it could be different. Editing: 5/10 SPECIAL EFFECTS There's so little of them that it's hard to find them. Considering that this series is supposed to be as grounded as possible, this is enough to consider them acceptable. Special Effects: 6/10 SOUNDTRACK It isn't interesting or entertaining. It isn't used in a remarkable way and it just feels like background noise. There's just one character which is influenced by music but loses this trait in the next season. I've expected more and I'm not satisfied, because the overall quality of this show is influenced by it. Only in the last two episodes of the last season there seems to be originality in it. Soundtrack: 6/10 COSTUMES There isn't much to say about them. Normal and weird 2000's style which evolves in something more mature in the last season. This section is particularly underwhelming because it doesn't add much to the plot or the characters. Costumes: 6/10 CONCLUSION Script: 6/10 Acting: 6/10 Photography: 5/10 Editing: 5/10 Special Effects: 6/10 Soundtrack: 6/10 Costumes: 6/10 AVERAGE: 5,71 A highly flawed teen drama with good ideas and a mixed execution. Watch the first four season and skip to the seventh to enjoy it. • Army of Darkness: KLAATU BARADA ... EJEM HUMMM ICTO

Reviews by: @aquel_maldito_cine_ochentado * KLAATU BARADA... AHEM HUMMM ICTO* The Army of Darkness (Army of Darkness) 1992 Sam Raimi đŸ‡ș🇾 🔎 What's it about? Ash the Possessed Killer travels to the Middle Ages to unlock the secrets of the Necronomicon. đŸ“œ Who made it? We all know that Raimi made it, but let's review the saga and its adjacent ones: Within the Woods (78), a medium-length film that outlines, with dark poetic ingenuity, the story of the cursed cabin; Infernal Possession (81), dumb and direct as vomit, the best foray into the possession genre since the Exorcist; Terrifyingly Dead (87), a gimmicky and crazy cartoon reversal that constitutes the creation of the universe of... Ash vs Evil Dead (015-018), an unapologetic finding within the current seriophile garbage, as essential as it is little seen; Possession infernal (013), directed by a value like Fede Álvarez, is a manual of how all reebots should be: with something to tell but with no intention of improving the original; and Hail to the deadites (020), a wonderful and addictive documentary by Steve Villeneuve that is a true tribute to the groupies of the franchise. 💎 What shines? Bruce Campbell and his broom of fire, Bruce Campbell and his battalion of skulls, Bruce Campbell divided into mini-Ashes, the imagination with which it is shot, its excellent turn towards comedy and comic adventure, Kurtzman's hilarious visual effects , Nicotero and Berger (advised by Tom Sullivan), Danny Elfman's March of the Dead, and the production of the always successful (and little recognized) Robert Tapert. 👑 Why do we like it? Because it is A Yankee in the court of King Arthur but with zombies and demons, for its torrent of homages to classic horror and science fiction movies, for taking advantage of every second of its glorious 89 minutes, for its disrespectful B-series air cooked on the sidelines from the big studios, for the legendary ending (seen in Sitges) with Ash in a post-apocalyptic future, and for its highly imitated mix of genres so 80s. • Our Flag Means Death: Peak Taika Waititi Comedy Yet Again

Reviews by: @tylernerdy_review At the request of one of my best friends I binged all of Taika Waititi’s newest series Our Flag Means Death over on HBO max. This show was just a heartwarming delight of 10 episodes that does what Taika is best at, merging touching moments with laugh out loud funny moments. Rhys Darby gives a fun take on the Gentleman Pirate Steed Bonnet and his character grew more than I thought he would. Joel Fry, Samson Kayo, Nathan Foad, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Samba Schutte, Ewen Bremner, Vico Ortiz, and Nat Faxon play such a great, diverse, and fun crew. They all get a good moment to shine and have really good side plots in just 10 episodes at 30 minutes. Taika’s Blackbeard is so much fun and I’m really curious what they’re going to do with him next season. Con O’Neill Guz Khan, and David Fane are a great crew for Blackbeard and I love that Taika continues to give his New Zealanders a platform. Rory Kinnear play twin villains pretty well that have some disturbing shocks to them. There are some great surprise comedy cameos throughout as well. There is so much representation for the show, I was not expecting so much LGBTQIA+ content so thanks for that, made me so happy. Taika continues to be one of the masters of comedy right now and I can’t wait to see his work on Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor: Ragnarok is one of my favorite MCU films, Jojo Rabbit and What We Do in the Shadows are some of my favorite films, and now both What We Do in the Shadows and Our Flag Means Death are some of my favorite shows. This is such a quick and fun watch and a gem for HBO max, please give this a watch if you can. 8/10 on this one, only because they bite off more they can chew VFX wise. They have some great sets, they just use way too much green screen for what I assume was a pretty small budget. I admire the ambition and I hope they can achieve it in season two. There’s a big cliff hanger that I need some answers to right now!! Other than that, this first season was a pure delight and I really can’t wait to see more. Thankfully more Taika content isn’t too far away, just give us that trailer please! I assume WWDITS season 4 starts soon as well. I’m glad to be watching more shows again! -Tyler. • Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga: A Truly Fantastic Addition to the Lego Game Series

Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga is easily the greatest Lego game I have ever played. The way they still manage to find a fun way to tell the original and prequel trilogies and perfectly work the sequels into that is just mind blowing. This also ends up being a big Clone Wars reunion as almost every prequel era character is voiced by their Clone Wars actor. It’s so weird but so fun to hear Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor, and more saying movie dialogue. Most of the other actors are really good at mimicking the vocals of the original actors, some of which made me question if it was the original person. I was super skeptical on the change from hearts to a life bar, but it really grew on me and I’m alright with it. I think my one main gripe is the character selection and the character selection menu. I really miss just holding Y and the whole list coming up. I like what they tried to do with ordering the characters by a handful of categories but it’s annoying that Original Leia and Sequel Leia are in different categories. She’s not the only one that gets divided to different groups and I miss just seeing all of the skins for one character in the same place. And getting around that system is a little annoying and difficult at times when trying to do stuff fast. But there also just feels like a lot of characters are missing. 380 seems like a big number but when you compare that to other Lego Star Wars games or even Marvel ones, that’s not too much bigger and they waste a lot of space on stupid skins and nonsense characters. Beyond that, there is so much to do after you beat the main story. There are so many planets to explore, some of which with multiple maps on them plus the space around it. On each planet there are so many collectibles that are fun and challenging with hilarious names and references, like the titles of the missions as well. They manage to make Tatooine, Jakku, and Pasaana feel different and unique, plus make all 3 of Tatooine’s maps feel special as well. I ran into a lot of bugs, which is normal for the first few weeks of a video game, thankfully only a couple were game breaking, the rest were just annoying. Sadly none of them were funny. 9/10. -Tyler. By @tylersnerdy_review

  • Young Justice: Old Ways Needs a Young and Sparkling Overhaul

Reviews by: @the_owlseyes “The secret message communicated to most young people today by the society around them is that they are not needed, that the society will run itself quite nicely until they - at some distant point in the future - will take over the reigns. Yet the fact is that the society is not running itself nicely... because the rest of us need all the energy, brains, imagination and talent that young people can bring to bear down on our difficulties. For society to attempt to solve its desperate problems without the full participation of even very young people is imbecile” Alvin Toffle PLOT "Teenage superheroes strive to prove themselves as members of the Justice League" or "How to make the sidekicks more interesting and compelling". SCRIPT By far the best aspect of this series. All the characters are fleshed out well and the main ones get the wonderful archs and developments. I can say the same abou the villains. I like the fact that we're able to experience every character growth through the years, an aspect which is crucial for this show. There's no filler and every episode is packed with relevant events which change the heroes and the villains. This show has clear rules and it's pretty self aware. A lot of different and relevant themes are explored, an aspect which makes this series one of the best DC's productions like The Batman Series. Sometimes it drags a bit but overall it's pretty engaging. I like the fact that this show manages to include a crossover with another DC's production, which is kinda unexpected. I think that this series is undervalued and deserves more recognition. Script: 9/10 ACTING The voice acting is good and the voices fit the characters. It isn't as good as The Batman Series but it works. I like the fact that it remains constistent throughout all the show. I like a lot Superboy and Nightwing voice actors, because they're able to infuse their character with a lot of charisma and emotions. Acting: 6/10 PHOTOGRAPHY Like the editing, this isn't a strength of this series. Light and shadows are mostly flat, which is kinda annoying. Which keep this section afloat are the colours, which are bright and carry a lot of symbolism. There're some nice shots but overall this is just mediocre. Photography: 6/10 EDITING It's ok, just that It doesn't take risks and prefers to play it safe. It's acceptable but that lowers the show's overall quality. Editing: 6/10 SPECIAL EFFECTS The animation is good looking and eye pleasing. It isn't original but it's pretty and the production had a lot fun at designing all the settings and heroes. I like the powers effects and how they're represented in order to underline every difference. There isn't much left to say. Even though it is similar to other productions, it has style. Special Effects: 6/10 SOUNDTRACK I don't find it particularly remarkable. It's like every other animated series and doesn't bring anything new. It works but it's kinda disappointing. I've expected more from a DC production. Soundtrack: 6/10 COSTUMES There's a wide variety of them and they evolve with the characters. I like Halo's one because it's unusual. They're pretty coloured and fit the characters powers, abilities and personality. I'm not just talking about the heroes but also the villains have interesting outfits. • It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Pure Comedy Genius For Fifteen Years

Reviews by: @tylernerdy_review It’s been a few months but I have finally finished all 15 seasons of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Granted, there are about 5 episodes I have not seen and can’t find anywhere. I watched on Hulu but every streaming service dropped 5 of them because of black face, which is understandable, it’s just the completionist in me wants to see it all. Thankfully you don’t need to see them to get the rest, this show has a lot of running jokes and occasional references to past episodes, but those ones don’t ever get brought up until an episode in season 15 when they make fun of themselves for making those black face episodes in the first place. Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, and Kaitlin Olson work so well together and did great for two seasons, and somehow Danny Devito fuses into the group perfectly. He is so good in this show it’s hard to believe they had two seasons without him. What continues to blow my mind is why I kept coming back. All 5 of them are such horrible people and they ruin so many peoples lives and yet, I still kept coming back and caring about them. Like I said there are a lot of great running jokes and many of them come to really great conclusions or reform into something new. It’s Always Sunny is a comedy masterclass as each and every episode managed to make me ugly laugh at least once and multiple times a season made my face hurt because the laughs just didn’t stop. I’m so happy to see this has already been picked up for another three seasons, hopefully they go back to 10 episodes, they lost a lot. From starting at 7 and growing to around 14 to back down to 10 and now 8 feels like a big down grade. Multiple times you can tell where the show was cancelled or moved networks as many of the finales feel like a proper end that would be satisfying if it stopped there. There is just so much about this show to love and I’m so excited to see more. Instead of giving a score to each season I’m just going to give a lump average score of 9/10 to the whole series so far. If you’re looking for dark humor mixed with cringe humor, you will love this show. Being on air since 2005 means this crew has gone through a lot of changes and world events. -Tyler. • Batman Forever: A Puzzling Mistake

Reviews by: @augustkellerwrites Batman Forever is a hot mess. Besides its memorable cast, the film is all wrong. First, the writing is lazy and forced. Character choices lack justification, only satisfying the script's cliche mold. Villains are flat with flimsy motivations, the romance is cringey, and the hero partnership is incompatible. Few scenes build characters or chemistry because the movie is preoccupied with predictable plot points and clumsy action. Thus, Batman Forever has nothing to connect with. It's an empty husk of a formulaic story structure, void of real thought or emotion. Furthermore, while some acting is forgivable, Carrey is annoying and O'Donnell is awkward. Meanwhile, the filmmaking of Batman Forever is misguided and cheap. The production has a theoretical style, but in actuality, it's muddled, hollow, and ugly. Sets look incomplete, lacking the details to be convincing. The cinematography has skillful moments, but that's outweighed by choppy orientation and cluttered composition. Plus, the editing is jagged, the sound is obnoxious, and the special effects are hideous. The music is competent, but doesn't fit with the film's erratic tone. Clearly, Schumacher wanted something campy, but he produced a grating, unsightly experience. Overall, Batman Forever is embarrassing. It's not fun and viewers should stay away. • Ambulance: A Fun Tour of Los Angeles With No Real Substance Behind It

Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review I went out with my friend last night so I could make fun of this movie. I hadn’t planned on watching it but my friend wanted to see it so I took it as an opportunity for fun. Turns out, not as bad as I thought it would be, but every bit as ridiculous as I thought. Ambulance is the most I’ve laughed at a drama in so long. To start, this god damn poster being set at night despite not a single scene in this movie being at night. It all takes place before rush hour and then ends as it starts. Which leads me to, this has NO RIGHT to be two hours and sixteen minutes. I know Michael Bay is used to dumby long films but this didn’t need to be one of them. But speaking of Mr. Bay, let’s talk about the directing. I think someone recently learned what the hell a drone is because he uses the shit out of drone shots on this one. Another thing he overuses is spiny camera tricks. Spinning the camera or going upside down or playing with angles can be really good when done right. Not when used scene after scene. There was a scene at the start that made me very dizzy because he unnecessarily spun the camera around during a conversation. Bay is also inconsistent between shots, he’ll cut super quick and come back and stuff is obviously not in the same place. Let’s do some good though, Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul Mateen II, and Eiza Gonzalez are really good for their close quarters roles. And Bay finally makes a good female character. Garret Dillahunt, Keir O’Donnell, Moses Ingram, Cedric Sanders, Jackson White, Colin Woodell, and Olivia Stambouliah are really good side characters that each get at least one moment to shine. But despite the acting being good, a lot of the characters are inconsistent, they’re made to be one type of person and then a few scenes later they’re a totally different type of person. AmbuLAnce (stupidest title, I’m so sick of this single word title trend. It only works in very specific situations, this isn’t one) is a fun mess that’ll keep you entertained at the very least. This is one that you will like more if you spend no money on it. Wait until it’s streaming and enjoy the fun for free. I watched on IMAX and it wasn’t worth it. I’m giving it a 6/10. -Tyler. • The Style of Jean Luc-Godard : A Pioneer of Cinema

Jean Luc-Godard has quickly and easily become one of my favourite directors. A remarkable artist whose films were ahead of their time. Godard is one of the most recognizable names from the French New Wave, and for good reason his films have a striking personality to them, they're timeless and have inspired countless filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino. He's gotten a lot of praise and I think he deserves every bit of it. He's a bold filmmaker who has a consistent filmography and has revolutionized cinema by experimenting with so many rules, coming up with crazy fun films to watch that also deeply connect with a lot of people, like me. He's known for a lot of thins, of course the experimental editing, notably seen in Breathless. His use of match-cuts went against the norm, but worked perfectly. He experimented with a lot of other stuff as well, like random uses and cutting off of music, randomly changing colours in a shot and other arbitrary techniques that could be disorienting but instead give his films a unique energy. People constantly talk about vibes or atmosphere on this app, and Godard is literally the king of vibes, he perfectly complements style and substance, a Godard character is instantly recognizable as a Godard character but he also spends time writing them well. One thing you notice from his films is a fascination towards the portrayal of modern youth and love, these are two themes that span most of his films, he talks about their existential problems and pretty much perfects the coming of age genre. And Godard's takes on love would require their own post, let's leave it at that. Oh and special mention to both Anna Karina and Jean-Paul Belmondo, two actors that appear multiple times in his films and always give amazing performances. I also love, love the way he breaks the 4th wall, it's not just cheeky, he does it for a reason. Like Wes Anderson he doesn't mind the fact that the audience knows they're watching the movie, instead he embraces it, and instead of trying hard to keep a suspension of disbelief, he uses subtext to continue telling rich stories. His films and especially his characters have an eccentric quality to them, a little whimsy sometimes, and a little bizarre sometimes. He also loves letting conversations play for as long as they can, which is something that influenced Tarantino. And personally, it never got boring. Godard also plays with the theme of doomed romances a lot, especially in Breathless and Pierrot Le Fou. It's always fresh and interesting every time he does it. And no spoilers but let's just say he KNOWS how to craft a heartbreaking, soul crushing ending. His endings are simply unforgettable. So yeah, I love this man, let me know what your favourite Godard film is. If you want. My favourite Godard films are - Pierrot Le Fou, Masculin Feminin, Breathless, Vivre Sa Vie and A Woman is a Woman By @starwards1

  • Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Leatherface puts the Mass in Mass Murder

Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review So staying with Netflix I also finally watched their new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. I’m pretty conflicted on this movie because I saw the horrible reviews and assumed it would be bad and came out kinda liking it. But I do have a lot of issues with it. Now before I get into this, I have to disclose that I have never seen the original film, in fact, the only movie in this series I’ve seen is the 2013 remake. But, this movie and that one start with a full recap of the original so I’ll keep living life having never seen it. Sarah Yarkin, Jacob Latimore, and Nell Hudson are just alright here. The movie is too short for any of them to get a chance to shine since the movie is mostly about Elsie Fisher. Fisher is pretty good here and I’m glad to see her back acting. Moe Dunford, Olwen FouĂ©rĂ©, Jessica Allain, Alice Krige, William Hope, and Jolyon Coy are okay as well but again no one has time to shine. Mark Burnham plays a really good and terrifying Leatherface that genuinely had me concerned for the characters. This movie fully committed to the gore and delivers on one of the most brutal horror sequences I’ve ever seen. The scene on the bus is so intense and would have been almost perfect if they didn’t try to tie it to their school shooting storyline. The story just felt unnecessary and like the creators didn’t really know what message they wanted to get across with it. Like they were saying guns are good but you can’t cancel us because we know that guns can be bad too. They tried to make Leatherface a sympathetic character but then completely take it away within a ten minute time span. I think it was filmed well but had way too many fake outs and close calls. Some of them come so close to dying way to many times and it got really annoying. But the kills are pretty nasty and fun making this at least worth the one watch for the gore or to make fun of it. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a decent attempt to bring back an old series that falls short of their intentions (of which I don’t think they had many beyond “chainsaw go vrrrmmmmmm, people go ahhhhh, blood go splat”). This one gets a 6/10 from me, check it out if you have the stomach for it. -Tyler. By @tylersnerdy_review

  • The Nan Movie: A Wild And Hilarious Roadtrip.

Reviews by: @ryan_the_nixon 2022 15 Director: Catherine Tate and Brett Goldstein. Starring: Catherine Tate, Mathew Horne, Katherine Parkinson, Jo Halpin, Sule Rimi, Niky Wardley, etc. Catherine Tate's iconic character Nan hits the big screen as she goes on a wild road trip from London to Ireland with her grandson Jamie to make amends with her estranged sister Nell. This film was hilarious and a lot of fun. The character background for her character was surprisingly strong and interesting. The film was absolutely hilarious, it had the same humour that I have come to expect with the Nan character, it was wild, outrageous and well written. Catherine Tate delivered a great performance. With a fun set up and good character conflict. There was a lot of funny scenes that you could just sit back and enjoy. The plot development was good, with a surprisingly heartwarming charm and moving final act. There was some issues though. It was a fairly generic and predictable roadtrip movie. There was some corny and overused moments, and the plot was stretched a bit thin in parts. Overall, The Nan movie is wild, outrageous and just a fun time at the movies. Balancing the humour with genuine heart and Catherine Tate delivers another fun outing as The Nan. Overall Score: 84/100. By @ryan_the_nixon

• Peacemaker: A Soaring Achievement for James Gunn and John Cena

Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review Thank god for James Gunn, this man doesn’t make something he doesn’t understand. This is what we get when actual fans make movies/shows. Way to bring such a small DC character into popularity. From making him a funny piece of shit on The Suicide Squad to making him a person we can actually like on Peacemaker. This show is easily one of the greatest things to come out of DC so far. I’m so happy it’s already been picked up for a second season. John Cena is truly fantastic here in ways I never thought we’d see. He takes this character to really great places. Danielle Brooks is easily one of the best characters on the show, her character is just so easy to like. Freddie Stroma does a great job turning a semi serious DC character into their version of Deadpool, a bumbling bafoon given swords and guns, and lots and lots of jokes. Jennifer Holland is back as Harcourt giving her a lot more depth. Steve Agee also returns as Economos making him a shocking badass with lots of complexity. Robert Patrick plays a truly horrible character incredibly well. Chukwudi Iwuji deserves an Emmy for this role. I can’t wait to see how he fares in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. Annie Chang and Lochlyn Munro are great side characters that I wish we had seen just a little bit more. This was a fantastic eight episode season. Nothing feels like the “filler” that people love to hate and delivers on the best character moments I’ve seen in a long time. This team really comes to feel like a family as they teach each other a lot of new things. Gunn slips in some great messages and again makes villains (not the racists) with redeemable qualities and a moral right to stand on. HBO max has a serious hit with this series and I’m beyond excited to see what the future holds for it. I’m giving it full 10/10. Every part of it just seems so well thought out and well acted. Love hearing more of Gunn’s music taste. The Suicide Squad and this are now the DC gold standard, hope they can keep it going. Stop micro managing your directors Warner Bros, your projects shine when you don’t. -Tyler. By @tylersnerdy_review

  • The Boys - Diabolical: A Little Gift from Billy Butcher

Reviews by: @the_owlseyes "He's Got A Speaker For A Face All He Can Play Is 'Only Wanna Be With You' By Hootie And The Blowfish" The Narrator PLOT "The Boys animated spin-off" or "There isn't another way to explain it ahhahah" SCRIPT It's an anthology and I think that works well. Each story is well written and everty character has an arch. All the stories are deeply disturbing, even though they're disguised as light and cheerful by their animation. But the last one is the episode which is more relevant and will let you know who really is Homelander. If you're a newcomer it serves well as an introduction to The Boys universe and its main character. Sure, there's an overreliance on gore and sexual explicit scenes and it isn't as entertaining as the main series but it's good. It surely leave you asking for more, or less if you don't like how dark comedy intertwines with the superhero's genre. Script: 8/10 ACTING Most of the time is good but sometimes it felt off, especially regarding normal actors because their voices are a bit off putting and I think that Anthony Starr isn't a good voice actor. I'm not saying that it's bad but I've expected more. Acting: 6/10 PHOTOGRAPHY Just acceptable but in terms of lights and colours isn't good, I would say that it's pretty stale overall. I've expected more to say the least. Photography: 5/10 EDITING Not much to say about it but the clashes between superheroes is well done. It's mostly underwhelming to be sincere. Editing: 5/10 SPECIAL EFFECTS The use of different animation styles makes each episode refreshing and interesting to watch. There're 8 styles which fits the story perfectly. Most of them are related to other well known series and I think that you won't have any trouble finding them out. Special Effects: 8/10 SOUNDTRACK It's acceptable but I've heard better, far better. The blend of instrumental and pop music is good but I find it repetitive. Soundtrack: 6/10 COSTUMES Like the series, here the superheroes suits are top notch. It's hard to say which is the best one. It isn't impressive because this is a superheroes show. • Tell Me That It's Over: Wallows's Sophomore Album Delivers Ten New Amazing Songs for the Band

Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review Warning, incredibly biased review incoming. Jesus Christ I love this band. Not a single skip or flop on their sophomore album Tell Me That It’s Over by Wallows. I am beyond upset, I currently have tickets to their concert in my town, it took my friends and I so long to pick a section and seats. I was so excited
so excited that I had stuff to do this summer that I double booked myself and bought tickets to Disney with my family the same day as the concert, those are non refundable so I can’t make the concert. I haven’t been to one since 21 Pilots about four years ago. I’m still mad I joined the party for this band so late but I’ve been catching up and have been waiting ever so patiently for this album! Excited to burst into a store tomorrow to buy a physical copy (my very first one for them)! With only ten songs, the thirty four minute album is very accessible to anyone new to the band and just wanting to try them out. But trust me, Wallows has never made a bad song. I really like having the album and entire tour be titled not after a song but after a phrase repeated in one of the songs. I usually try not to be basic and say the song the album is named after is my favorite but dammit, “I Don’t Want to Talk” is so good. With that being my first, my close second is “Guitar Romantic Search Adventure” and then third place I’d say is “Especially You” one of the three singles they put out leading up to this. I would make the bold statement that “Quarterback” from their most recent EP is still my favorite song of theirs overall. God I hope they tour again soon so I can see them live, it’s a legit dream of mine. I have an unhealthy obsession with this band. Tell Me That It’s Over is getting a 10/10 from me! I love every second of this half hour beauty. I love you Wallows! Thanks for delivering ten new bops I can annoy my friends and family with! -Tyler. By @tylersnerdy_review

  • Oldboy (2003): A Twisted Thriller

Reviews by: @augustkellerwrites Oldboy is ideal foreign cinema. Its structure is familiar, but its creativity is transformative. Generally, American films aren't brave enough to highlight taboo topics, conclude ambiguously, or get surreal. Because Oldboy dares to go there, it's a blast of fresh air. Its premise is strange and captivating: a man is mysteriously imprisoned in a motel-like room for fifteen years and suddenly released with no clue why. From there, the protagonist searches for answers and revenge. Through this journey, we consider themes of truth, acceptance, and self-fragmentation. Although it's packed with action and mystery, Oldboy is driven by its psychological examinations. Meanwhile, Oldboy is a technical force. First, its cinematography heightens the visceral atmosphere. Contrast, focus, methodical camerawork, and diverse shots (such as overheads, close-ups, and Dutch angles) contribute to an intense experience. Next, the editing is nonlinear, abstract, and stylized (using techniques like jump cuts, match cuts, and slow-motion to accentuate the action or drama). Plus, there's an iconic fight scene shown in a single, extended shot. Furthermore, the incorporated music adds melancholy juxtaposition, the abstract sound is emotionally impactful, and the special effects are magnifying. Overall, Oldboy is a unified vision that will leave a striking impression. • Fresh: A Unique Genre Crossover That Hits The Right Marks.

Reviews by: @ryan_the_nixon @tylernerdy_review 2022 18 Director: Mimi Cave Starring: Sebastian Stan, Daisy Edgar Jones, JoJo Gibbs, Andrea Bang, Dayo Okeniyi, Charlotte Le Bon, etc. Fresh highlights the horrors of modern dating seen through one young women's defiant battle to survive her new boyfriend's unusual appetites. This movie was absolutely messed up but I loved it. The cinematography and camerawork was really creative and refreshing. The set design was great. With a very strong script. The themes of the horrors of modern dating were well explored and truly showcases how dangerous it can be, especially for women. There was some interesting scenes involving a date gone wrong which shows how disrespectful some people can be. The chemistry between Sebastian Stan, Daisy Edgar Jones and JoJo Gibbs was excellent. With brilliant performances from all 3 of them. Daisy delivered an uncomfortable and passionate performance. Plus, Sebastian Stan really delivered a disturbing and unsettling performance here. The set up between the two leads meeting was great. The direction from Mimi Cave was excellent, this was her debut feature film and she has already established a strong visual style and voice for herself. The characters were likeable. With the sudden tonal shift being executed very well. The tone was very intense, uncomfortable and dark. There was some clever character decisions from Steve with good character motivation. The plot development, and balance between the character investigation was great. The score was great, with some messed up plot twists that kept the film interesting and unique. The film had this twisted dark humour that I loved and uncomfortably laughed at a few times. Plus the final act was intense and messed up. I only had a couple of issues. There was a lack of background and more set up to the plot to go deeper with the themes of the film. There was some questionable character decisions, and there was some underdeveloped plot points. Overall, despite parts of the plot leaving more to be desired. Fresh is a fantastic debut for Mimi Cave who delivered something fresh (Had to get it in here somehow) and unique here. With a distinct visual style, messed up and dark themes and intensity, and brilliant performances from the two leads. This was a refreshing original film that is certainly messed up but in a good way. Overall Score: 86/100. By @ryan_the_nixon The second of the two movies I watched with my friend was Hulu’s other original thriller from this year Fresh. Fresh was such a ridiculous and fun movie that had my friend and I laughing and disgusted at the same time. Daisy Edgar Jones and Sebastian Stan are infectious together before he kidnaps her to sell her body parts to cannibals around the world. The two of them are just so great together throughout the whole film. Jonica T Gibbs is a great ass friend, her search for her friend is so stressful and I wish we had seen more of her and Jones on screen together to sell their friendship. Dayo Okeniyi comes in really late and I wish they had done more with him. His story comes to a very unsatisfying conclusion that just makes you ask why he was there in the first place. I really wanted them to dive more into the people buying the flesh that they kept showing. Like
I wanted to see a little bit of Justice for these women done. I think maybe it does work more that there isn’t justice done because it connects more with the sad reality of these kinds of things. If you’re not a fan of dismemberment and things like that you might want to skip this one. You will see body parts and then you will see some of them cooked. The soundtrack on this movie is great and I actually added a song to my personal playlist. Fresh was such a good watch and I would definitely recommend checking it out. I’m giving it a good 8/10. -Tyler. By @tylernerdy_review

  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower: No One is Truly Alone

Reviews by: @_flasheandocine_ Charlie is an introverted young man who is always watching what is going on in his life without getting involved, until two charismatic students become his friends. Sam and his stepbrother Patrick help Charlie discover the joys of friendship, first love, music and more, while Professor Anderson causes him to dream of being a writer. However, as his new friends prepare to go off to college, his inner sadness threatens to destroy his confidence. It is a youth film that tells us the story of Charlie, an introverted boy, who at the beginning of his first year in high school did not have any friends. He until one day he decides to go to a football game at his school and meets Patrick, a senior boy with whom they share a class together. Since that day, he begins a friendship with Patrick's group, of which the person who most attracts Charlie's attention is Sam. In this film we are going to see how a boy with a very hard story in the background, since (spoilers) his only friend had committed suicide and his aunt raped him as a child, despite his past he tries to move on and generate new ties and live new experiences. I think both Sam and Patrick are the best thing that could have happened to Charlie, because thanks to them, he was able to discover what love and friendship are and, well, also learn about music and drugs. You have to understand that they are bigger than our protagonist and that is why they try to guide and help him all the time. Although Charlie seeks the same for his friends, since he always helps Patrick and more when his girlfriend left him. Like Sam, him helping her get into college and showing her that she is worth much more than what they always made her believe/feel and that someone can truly love you, like what Charlie feels for her. I think that although it is a film that represents adolescent problems, it is still quite deep because it shows us themes such as suicide at a young age, how the fact of having been raped at a young age and more by a relative who was very dear to him. And also the stigmatization of being gay at that time, and how those people had to pretend to be something they really weren't. It's a movie that personally generated a lot of feelings for me the moment I saw it, and to this day I still think it's one of my favorite movies. Not only because of how they treat the themes that are developed in the film, but because of the relationships of the characters. . Scores: IMDB: 7.9/10 Rotten Tomatoes: 85% . • Only Murders In The Building: A Charming Surprise With An Excellent Cast.

Reviews by: @ryan_the_nixon 2021 15 Director: Jamie Babbit, Cherien Dabis, Gillian Robespierre, Don Scardino. Starring: Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Aaron Dominguez, Amy Ryan, Jackie Hoffman, Jayne Houdyshell, Julian Cihi, Michael Cyril Creighton, Tina Fey, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Jane Lynch, James Caverly, Nathan Lane, etc. Three strangers who share an obsession with true crime suddenly find themselves caught up in one. This show was an amazing surprise and a real gem. The performances and chemistry between Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez was truly something special. The characters were very likeable and they each had their own unique qualities to them. The whole podcast side to the murder mystery was interesting and a lot of fun to see develop. The plot development and mystery was strong, with excellent cliff-hangers and brilliant cinematography. The plot twists were great, and the different themes and character depth from the different leads was surprisingly strong. This show was absolutely hilarious and had a fun and unique tone to it that makes it stand out from the crowd. The cameos and new characters introduced were great, adding interesting new suspects and dynamics to the characters relationships. The deaf representation and the episode completely dedicated to complete silence/lack of talking was great. The stakes were high, the reveal was satisfying. With an amazing and hilarious finale that set up season 2 in a strong way. My only slight criticism was that some episodes were fairly heavy with the exposition and this could have been cut down slightly in parts. Overall, Only Murders In The Building season 1 brings a fun and refreshing twist on the murder mystery, with outstanding and charming chemistry between the three leads and a gripping story that kept me laughing and entertained until the final frame. Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review @s.sohan2005 I genuinely think Everything, Everywhere, All At Once is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. From an amazing opening scene that builds into a mind bursting amount of insanity before dying down back to an amazing closing scene. Michelle Yeoh handles not just her character but every single version of her character with amazing and seamless grace, slowly growing into such a badass character. Stephanie Hsu essentially plays two characters as all of her versions are the same person but she does it so well and absolutely kills each of the wacky ass costumes they put her in. Ke Huy Quan pairs perfectly with Yeoh and does so well to introduce the audience to the multiverse. His character provides so much of the crucial and beautiful serious moments that break up all the insane scenes. James Hong is so great here! His character shocked me not once or twice but three times. Jamie Lee Curtis only really gets three versions of herself and she plays each of them in such a unique and fun way. All of the acting is just so good and everyone takes this movie very seriously despite having so many reasons not to. At its very heart this movie is about the relationship of parents and kids, accepting family and appreciating the smallest moments that we get with them. If I was Marvel, I’d be mad that not only were they beat to the punch by a whole month, but that it was by a non franchise film that did it so incredibly well. With only two and half hours Daniels manages to introduce the audience to all of the characters but also all of the great world building and rules of the multiverse. Obviously what Doctor Strange is doing is going to be very different than shifting consciousness so the two can’t be compared too much. I love this idea of “bubbles” where each major reality has its own smaller branches based off of every small decision. You never know where those small decisions can lead you and what they can change about your life. Told in three chapters; Part 1: Everything, Part 2: Everywhere, and Part 3: All At Once, the story is perfectly weaved together as a patchwork of touching, heartwarming moments sandwiched between great fight scenes and multiverse antics. 10/10. -Tyler. By @tylersnerdy_review Everything Everywhere ALL At Once is full of multiverse shenanigans but incorporated to the plot in a meaningful way. It is a stylistic movie made with substance and clever direction. Its sweeping ideas are balanced by interpersonal human drama in a meaningful way which feels true to the setting and the tone of this movie. The movie holds a delicate balance between different tones and styles through elegant direction and synchronised editing with creative camera angles. The tonal balance is balanced astonishingly well. The Daniels have a knack at creating creative high concept ideas and knocking them out of the park with stellar execution. The editing by Paul Rogers is commendable and is a glue which keeps the movie together. The acting performances by Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Shu with the mother-daughter dynamic is powerful yet elegant. It is a layered dynamic filled with nuance across different universes. Key Hu Quan is a lot of fun with his role and having to be different versions of the same character and he brings a lot of sensibility into this movie. James Hong as the older father is quirky with the different roles to plays throughout the movie. The sci-fi ideas presented in this movie are surprisingly high concept but do not overwhelm you or hit you on the head about it but are explored through a bittersweet family dynamic. It isn't self-serious with his ideas but has fun with them and that balances it out in a satisfying manner. The Daniels gleefully embrace this chaos instead of overexplaining these ideas and are left for the viewer's imagination. Overall this film has style with substance and balanced diligently through visionaries like The Daniels brothers and one of the best A24 movies which feels original and fresh. By @s.sohan2005

  • Pam & Tommy: Celebrities are Like Us, Frail and Full of Emotions

Reviews by: @the_owlseyes “Life is like sex. It’s not always good, but its always worth trying.” Pamela Anderson PLOT "Follows the story of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee's relationship, going back to their whirlwind romance that started with them marrying after only knowing each other for 96 hours in 1995" or "How to destroy a career in a couple of years". SCRIPT It starts as an easy show about a petty scandal which slowly evolves into something which is much deeper. What comes out is the fact that Pamela Anderson has sacrificied her career for a toxic partner and a misguided guy who just wanted payback. It isn't just about the sextape but also about its consequences. You'll feel bad for Pamela. Not only that but other themes are analyzed and subverted well, like love and sexual exploitation. It isn't a feminist show but one who points out the fact that we live in a corrupt society which disregards people feelings and needs. This is why I think that this series is well written and the characters are marvellously fleshed out. Script: 8/10 ACTING With the script, this is the only reason why this is the only reason why this series is watchable. Lily James and Sebastian Stan deliver a remarkable performance by emboding two people who are way out of their comfort zone. It's incredible how they disappear in their characters. Especially Lily James who becomes Pamela Anderson to the point that it's hard to understand who is who. Seth Rogen is good too but he plays his usual character. He brings more comedy to the show but he doesn't really stand out for his skills. The other actors are alright, just that. Acting: 7/10 PHOTOGRAPHY Lights tend to be flat, with a lack of shadows. Colours don't have a relevance. Overall is just tasteless. It doesn't leave you anything. Photography: 5/10 EDITING Some transitions are funny and make the show's pace faster. Unfortunately they became redundant and uninspired quickly and the experience devolve into a sluggish and boring collage of scenes. Editing: 6/10 SPECIAL EFFECTS There're just a few of them but the one which stands out is the one about Tommy's dick. The scene is hilarious and gross at the same time. Most people will find it revolting. In that scene is displayed how cheap the CGI is in this show. Special Effects: 6/10 SOUNDTRACK 90's Pop music is put front and centre in thsi series. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's just ...meh. I liked it but they don't contribute to the plot or the characters that much. The instrumental part of it are forgettable. Soundtrack: 6/10 COSTUMES There isn't much to say about it. Only that there's a lot of nudity on display here. Nudity which isn't out of nowhere because, after all, this is a show about a sextape. It's just mediocre. Costumes: 6/10 CONCLUSION Script: 8/10 Acting: 7/10 Photography: 5/10 Editing: 6/10 Special Effects: 6/10 Soundtrack: 6/10 Costumes: 6/10 AVERAGE: 6,28 An interesting series with a lot of flaws about a controversial event which changed the lives of a lot of people. • Forrest Gump: Live It, Don't Overthink It

Reviews by: @movieejunkiee @movie_oddity I saw this film for the first time around this time last year (lockdown 2020). The first time I watched Forrest Gump I didn't really like it. I know, hard to believe. But seriously, I thought it was OK but I didn't connect with it. A few days ago, I decided to rewatch this film and realised that this is one of the best pieces of filmmaking ever made. The story, script, directing, score, soundtrack, and of course acting are just a few of the outstanding things this film portrays. Robert Zemeckis was already one of my favourite filmmakers and rewatching Forrest Gump, Zemeckis has been bumped up the list. I am glad this made the Filmstagram Top 100 today @magicoffilm. Anyway, onto the directing. Robert Zemeckis did an excellent job on directing this masterpiece. The tracking shots were mesmerizing. Also, the moving camera shots panning characters up and down (like Forrest Gump when he is on the bench, panning from his feet to his head) were simply beautiful. I also loved the symmetrical shots. The cinematography was excellent too. The music was one of my favourite parts of the movie. Alan Silvestri has worked extensively with Robert Zemeckis and now I know why. He made every scene feel that much more emotional or triumphant. Not only the score was excellent but also the soundtrack. There are so many songs that are so perfect and fitting for the specific time period this film is set in. I especially love the scene where they are walking down the road in Vietnam and Forrest is talking about how they're looking for some guy named Charlie and "For What It's Worth" is playing in the background. Every time a song comes on in this film it makes you want to move and groove with Gump. Now, onto the acting. The acting in this film is some of the best acting I have ever seen in my life. I used to think that Tom Hanks gave a better performance in Cast Away than in Forrest Gump, but after rewatching this I realised how good of a performance he gave playing Forrest (although he also gave an excellent performance in Cast Away). Definitely a well deserved Oscar. I didn't see Tom Hanks in this film at all, I only saw Forrest Gump (and a bit of Sheriff Woody). The accent he put on for this film is unbelievable. My second favourite performance was given by Gary Sinise playing Lieutenant Dan. Every single one of his rage scenes were perfect (especially the one where he gets angry at some girls on New Year's Eve because they called Forrest stupid). Robin Wright was great as well. Another thing I want to mention is the narration. This film has excellent narration, but it's not like anything I've seen before. It's not like Goodfellas or Fight Club because those narrations are needed for you to understand what's going on, where as in Forrest Gump it's used as a storytelling/artistic technique. You could easily cut out the narration in this film and still understand everything that's going on but it wouldn't be as funny or entertaining. A lot of the time when Forrest is explaining what's going on to the people on the bench, it is repeated by another character in the movie (if that makes sense). For example, in the walking scene in Vietnam, Forest says, "Lieutenant Dan was always getting these funny feelings about a rock, or a trail, or the road, so he'd tell us to get down, shut up" and then half a second later Lieutenant Dan shouts "Get Down! Shut Up!" I think that this adds to the magic and uniqueness of this film because it uses narration as a humorous tool. I also wanted to talk about the screenplay. This film has one of my all time favourite screenplays (along with Good Will Hunting and Django Unchained). The overall story and pacing is outstanding. The pacing is probably the most original pacing I have ever seen and it adds to how perfect this film is. You get to see the 50's, 60's and 70's through the eyes of a guy with a mental illness withing 2 hours and a half. Not only that, you also get to see his life unravel before your eyes. The character of Forrest Gump is written so well. So is Jenny, Lieutenant Dan and Bubba. It shows us that no matter what race, disability, mental illness, religion or path we've taken in life, we can always get back on our feet (no pun intended). This film is filled with important messages, not just the one I have just stated, but many more, such as: If you do what you're told you will get far in life (because Forrest does what he's told ALL the time and he became rich, but most importantly, happy) and always listen to your gut instinct (Forrest listened to his gut to go find Bubba, and on his way saved many lives. He also listened to his gut when he felt like running, and because of that VERY long run, Jenny got intouch with him again and they later got married). Anyway, that is today's review. I hope you like it because I have spent over an hour writing this. This is my longest review EVER for a beautiful film (one of my favourites). Make sure to drop a comment with your thoughts on Forrest Gump and my review/essay! Thanks for reading! See you tomorrow! • Raging Bull: Becoming the Antagonist of Your Own Story

Reviews by: @conorfilmreviews 8.5/10 - Directed By: Martin Scorsese - Cast: Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Cathy Moriarty - Distributed By: United Artists There is no denying that Raging Bull is a great film, and when you remember it is 40 years old, it's surprising that it still serves as a great piece of cinema. Raging Bull, a classic boxing film, has intense action which you can't say about a lot of films in this era. The choreography is spot on, the screaming of the crowd makes you feel as though you are watching the fight in person, and the emotions attached to these scenes are very powerful. My only complaint for the fights is that they feel quite short and I wish they were extended by a few extra minutes because the intensity seems to fade away the moment it arrives and you don't immediately receive the 'on the edge of your seat' feeling for the first couple fights. Similar to another iconic boxing film (Rocky) the love relationship contains the same issue. This issue being that the relationship starts off feeling a little uncomfortable or forced but as the film continues, we eventually learn the ideals/characteristics of this couple and their experiences together via a montage. It's obvious since it's in the title but the main theme of this film is rage. It's an emotion that drives some characters and has a choke hold on others. Either you accept the rage inside you and use it as weapon (Jake and Joey) or you're the person who's being attacked by it (Vickie). It's a very destructive personality trait and it is presented incredibly well by both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. I would like to see more films with these two actors working together because it's clear to me that when they are offered good direction with their characters they can portray it extremely well. Jake's rage evolves into a level of toxicity that creeps into his romantic relationship and his relationship with his brother. It rises to the point he physically abuses his wife and shouts at his brother. As a viewer, you watch Jake have a fight straight after doing these two things I previously listed and you consider if he's becoming the antagonist of his own story. By @conorfilmreviews

  • The Card Counter: A Sublime Performance by Oscar Isaac

Reviews by: @decinelibrosymas THE CARD COUNTER (2021) DIRECTOR: Paul Schrader CAST: Oscar Isaac, Tye Sheridan, Tiffany Haddish, Willem Dafoe đŸŽžïž Will is an ex-military man and professional card player who decides to help a boy related to his past execute his revenge plan. 🎬 Film directed by Paul Schrader, who has done other projects like The Reverend or Risen Adam. The composers of the original soundtrack, Robert Levon Been and Giancarlo Vulcano, deserve special recognition, of whom I will speak in depth later. 📃 The part of the script is the one that can generate the most controversy. As many others state, the plot can seem slow and somewhat repetitive even though the main theme is what you are looking for. It tries to carry the tension with a slow but overwhelming cooking, with a mysterious main character that takes you into that inner world wracked with guilt and that way of trying to balance with the past. One of the few drawbacks in terms of the script that I can put is having wasted the character played by Sheridan, with a background almost as interesting as that of the protagonist, but left in a secondary plane. 🎭 Oscar Isaac plays a dazzling role, helped by the creation of the character he embodies, cold and calculating. Tye Sheridan and Tiffany Haddish accompany this protagonist, but the one who can never be left unnamed, no matter how little footage he has on screen, is Willem Dafoe, sublime in everything he does year after year. đŸŽ¶ Levon Been and Vulcano do a more than remarkable job accompanying these slow moments without action in the story, mainly with a fantastic use of synthesizers and strings, which maintain the tension and raise it at specific moments. 🍿 Highly recommended film, although I highly doubt that it is suitable for all audiences, mainly due to those slow moments and lack of action in the plot, although excellent at times, and with a sublime performance by Isaac. • Alice in Borderland: Everyone Looks Like They’re About To Die, As Usual

Reviews by: @the_owlseyes “It Amazes Me That I'm Willing To Do Anything Just So That I Can To Survive. If We Weren't Willing, We Might As Well Die.” Yuzuha Usagi PLOT "A group of bored delinquents are transported to a parallel dimension as part of a survival game" or "Squid Game Made in Japan" SCRIPT The series it's made of two parts and, in a way, they collide in terms of tone and characters. In the first part the series introduce the protagonist and his three friends. They're well developed till the series decides to threw all this work away to focus on other character which were briefly introduced previously and new ones. Sure, the characters in the second part are more interesting and compelling, but it feels odd and, to be sincere, it's hard to connect well with them. In the second we're introduced to a lot of concepts and characters which, in my opinion, feel redundant. That's a pity because the script touches interesting but unoriginal themes which are present in the majority of Eastern animes and media. Surely they are appealing for an Eastern public but I find them repetitive and derivative. The ending is a sequel bait but it left me with just one question: Do any of the characters in the series ever played with a deck of cards? Because they looked speechless when a certain card showed itself in the new phase teased at the end of the last episode. Script: 7/10 ACTING With the script, this is the only why this series isn't a complete turf. The main actors deliver a remarkable performance, especially Kento Yamazaki, who plays the deeply torned protagonist, and NijirĂŽ Murakami, who is able to build up a character which is both fascinating and compelling. The others are good as well but not in a way which kept me interested to their characters. My only criticism is that sometimes the drama is too exaggerated to the point of becoming cringy and dull. Acting: 7/10 PHOTOGRAPHY Like the editing there isn't much to praise about it. I like the fact that the series use a different filter to make the parallel universe more impactful but it isn't enough to say that it's good. There're some interesting scenes of an empty Tokyo which feel quite off putting considering that it's is one of the most populated cities in the world. Photography: 6/10 EDITING It isn't impressive, not at all. I find it a bit stale and repetitive because there isn't anything special about it. I would describe it as tasteless. Editing: 6/10 SPECIAL EFFECTS They're used well but the ones used in the last episode aren't exactly top tier and they downgrade the overall quality of the series. I've hoped for more practical VFXs instead of a misuse of CGI. Special Effects: 6/10 SOUNDTRACK I've expected much more from it. I just think that it's the usual you can find in other japanese anime or live action series. Sometimes, when pop songs are used it becomes slightly better, just a bit. Soundtrack: 6/10 COSTUMES There isn't much to say about them because there isn't anything impressive or remarkable which makes them memorable. Costumes: 6/10 CONCLUSION Script: 7/10 Acting: 7/10 Photography: 6/10 Editing: 6/10 Special Effects: 6/10 Soundtrack: 6/10 Costumes: 6/10 AVERAGE: 6,28 A decent series. • Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Good Family Fun That Follows Up the Original Very Well

Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review I just got out of my showing for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and much like the first one, it’s not bad. This is clearly made for a younger audience. More specifically, the age old enough to know modern internet slang but too young to realize how horribly cringe it is. When Sonic randomly says “I live rent free in that guy’s head” I damn near lost it. That’s not the only instance of it either. A lot of the jokes felt like they were trying way too hard and they all felt like jokes they wrote for the first one. They legitimately feel the same. But there are some gem jokes in here, mostly physical ones and shockingly from two people (one isn’t a shock though). Ben Schwartz is still good as Sonic, I just can’t get over how little he’s changed. Idris Elba is a great addition to the series. His Knuckles is just great and is the source for a lot of the best jokes in the movie. They come from that super serious Drax type of place. Colleen O’Shaughnessey is really good as Tails but makes the character so confusing. She makes this little boy sound so much like a woman that it’s distracting to the character. Jim Carrey is absolutely, fantastically wacky and delivers such a great performance that very well could be his last. If it is, it’s a good way to go out. James Marsden gets massively sidelined this time around but still gets a few good scenes. Tika Sumpter actually gets more screen time than she did in the first and I appreciate the writers for that, I really like her. Natasha Rothwell definitely saw what people liked about her character the first time and turned all of that up to an eleven. I liked it, but I feel like a lot of people might think it’s too much. Shemar Moore is good here as a character that delivers a pretty big shock. Adam Pally and Lee Majdoub are both still good but still don’t get enough screen time to really care about their characters. The VFX look pretty good but the animated characters are just too animated to look like they should exist with these people. My Sonic lore is mostly based on these movies so I can’t say if they did the Master Gem stuff well but I can tell you it was cool as hell. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is just good family fun 7/10. -Tyler. SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!!!!!! The post credit scene setting up Shadow is handled so well and keep me excited for Sonic 3. But also, when Sonic went full Captain Marvel in the final fight all I could think of was the Disney lawsuit coming their way. He looked exactly like she does in the movies. It was super cool though. The final scene with nice Knuckles is one of the most precious things I’ve seen and I really liked it. I thought we had moved past scary beams of light shooting into the sky but I guess not, but hey
this time it’s green and not blue. By @tylersnerdy_review

  • The King: The Struggles of Power

Reviews by: @natsfilmreview (Plot) Young Henry V encounters deceit, war and treachery after becoming King of England in the 15th century, in the aftermath of his brother's death. (Rating and Review) (slight spoilers!) 7/10. ⭐This film, with the help of an amazing cast captures the essence of kingship and war of the medieval era pretty well. I particularly enjoyed seeing TimothĂ©e play a brooding and serious character for a change. He fits the role of wildchild turned king suavely. And as usual Robert Pattinson brings that wonderful chaotic edge to his own character. ⭐Whilst not consistent, there is some really gorgeous shots of cinematography sprinkled throughout this film, and I loved the silhouetted shots that were filmed against the sunset. ⭐The soundtrack is decent enough, with a few enjoyable pieces in particular playing in the battle and speech scenes. Speaking of the speech, TimothĂ©e gave a haunting deliverance and there were some really quotable lines from it. "All men are born to die. We know it. We carry it with us always. If your day be today, so be it. Mine will be tomorrow." ⭐Since this film is centred on the battlefield, plenty of blood and gore is obviously to be expected, however I did find some scenes to be overly gruesome and disturbing such as the scenes showing children being murdered, a scene showing a boy being forced to carry the head of his friend and another scene showing a really upclose shot of a beheading. Gore usually doesn't bother me but I did find them scenes a bit icky, however that may just be me 😅 ⭐The battle was so-so in my opinion. When I compare it to battles in other films such as Braveheart, Macbeth and even Lord of the Rings, this one seems a bit subdued and anti-climatic in comparison. ⭐This definitely is a fun watch for history fanatics as well as those who are generally into the medieval/war/royalty genre. • Sir Gawain and the Green Knight: A True British classic

Reviews by: @tylernerdy_review Back with a reading from my Medieval Literature class, this time we read the 800 year old British classic Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. I see now why many people did not like the newest “The Green Knight” film. People who have studied this poem or those forced to read it for a class didn’t like how different the movie was. But call me crazy, I like the movie more. The basic principles of the poem exist in the movie they’re just rearranged and placed in new spots. They also add a lot more for Gawain to do. But either way, this poem is still a masterpiece with such a cool stanza format and rhyme scheme. It is written very well and very easy to understand despite being well over 800 years old and translated from a form of English we no longer use. I don’t know much of the lore for King Arthur so thankfully this is pretty light on all of that until the end, like literally the last 3 pages or so. But the messages on following the principles you choose or living honorably are timeless and can still be used today. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is of course getting a 10/10. -Tyler. • A Bug's Life: Small Start

Reviews by: @augustkellerwrites Despite being overshadowed, A Bug's Life is good. It isn't Pixar's best, but this film provides plenty. First, the plot is relatively fresh. Yes, it's basically Seven Samurai, but that narrative structure isn't overdone. Plus, there are enough twists to differentiate itself. Flick's misunderstood creative protagonist is cliche, but his unconventional plans have natural set-ups and pay-offs. The story also has social commentary about workers and limiting beliefs. Meanwhile, though voice acting is confined, Hopper is intimidating, Flick is relatable, and the circus bugs are uniquely humorous. Overall, the writing isn't Pixar's most distinctive, but it still has significance. Furthermore, A Bug's Life is raised by Pixar's technical floor. The special effects defined the era and revolutionized animation. Randy Newman's music is reliably pleasant, setting an upbeat mood. The production design is familiarly endearing, establishing Pixar's cartoonish humanization of exotic environments. Additionally, there's a comical match cut edit and an exaggerated zoom to highlight Flick's shock. The sounds of bugs flying, birds chirping, and rain falling are intentionally overdramatic. Also, the tone is lighthearted with moments of precise tension, maintaining excitement. Never dull and always enjoyable, A Bug's Life is a worthy experience with notable substance. • The Day After Tomorrow: Chaos Overload

Reviews by: @augustkellerwrites The Day After Tomorrow is a messy blockbuster. It's a spectacle with formulaic beats, but the film doesn't have a cohesive point (besides destruction). Typical of Roland Emmerich, The Day After Tomorrow follows several characters through a global cataclysm. Massive death is trivialized, vulnerable characters are rushed, and the disaster solves itself without shaping the protagonists. Plus, the science and politics aren't realistic. Lastly, the conclusion lacks falling action. Once the climate event stops, the movie ends without reflection. This is because The Day After Tomorrow had nothing to say. The film's sole purpose was to present weather set-pieces. Meanwhile, Emmerich's mediocre filmmaking continues. Imagery is plain, sound is standard, and music is forgettable. The unimaginative production design lacks tangible craft because it's all sterile CGI. Had the film utilized varied effects, it would've been more impactful. The best scenes use real water and believable hail, but even those are undercut by glossy CGI additions. Finally, the tone is erratic. Cartoonish action doesn't mesh with forced drama. Films are either sincere or not. The Day After Tomorrow tries to have it both ways and contradicts itself. Overall, it's an adequate source of shlock, but The Day After Tomorrow isn't good. • Four Good Days: An Unoriginal yet Honest Take on Drug Addiction

Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review I have four final Oscar based reviews coming out, I promise I watched them before the show, so if we could pretend I got them out before the show that would be great! The first review is Four Good Days which has a whole one nomination; “Somehow you do” for Best Original Song. I really didn’t like this song, I don’t think it sounded good, so I don’t think it ever stood a chance at winning. As for the rest of the movie, I quite enjoyed it. It gives a very true and honest depiction of drug use and the effects it has on those around you. The many things you can lose for using and the strain it puts on the relationships in your life. Glenn Close gives a very good performance as the mother that has tried so many times to help her daughter and ended up getting hurt even more times and now she has just given up. Mila Kunis transforms herself into a scarred and toothless heroine addict very well and delivers a really good performance. Stephen Root doesn’t have much to do until near the end but he has a really great scene opposite of Close about how she treats him when her daughter comes back around. They approach drug use from a few directions, debating where the disease comes from and what might happen in life to cause it. I think they do a good job leaving it up to interpretation and letting you decide how someone starts using drugs. There’s nothing really special about how the movie is made or even the story really. But even being a pretty basic movie on drug use, I really enjoyed the story. For the most part it feels like it is hitting all the bases that have been laid out in the past and just packages it around the great performances within the movie. Close and Kunis work really well together despite not really looking related in any way. The movie is very heavy on the two of them and everyone else in the movie never really gets a chance to shine other than Root. I’m giving Four Good Days a decent 8/10, I see why it wasn’t nominated for anything else and really don’t understand the one it has. But I do think it is worth at least one watch if only for the performances from Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, and Stephen Root. -Tyler. By @tylersnerdy_review

  • Books of Blood: A Little Gem Definitely Worth Looking At

Reviews by: @deralthoff BOOKS OF BLOOD is a horror anthology that consists of three stories, but they are connected. A young student who is mentally ill and whose delusions pursue her more and more and drive her to a special house. A mother who lost her young son to cancer and seeks hope in a medium. And a criminal who is looking for a special book. At first these three stories seem unconnected, but towards the end it becomes clear how they are connected. Even within the individual stories, there are twists that I found interesting in the beginning and were not always really predictable. It's actually a bit of a shame that the stories themselves are relatively short, because I would have liked to have seen and experienced more about the first story than the film ultimately gives. The overall story, which envelops the three small stories, is coherent in itself, but a few questions remain unanswered at the end. Visually, BOOKS OF BLOOD is definitely an eye-catcher in many scenes. Even if some effects are not always 100% of the very best quality, they still don't lose their effectiveness. The presentation of the Book of Blood in particular surprised me and was creatively implemented, I think. In terms of brutality and explicit portrayal, the film is sometimes a bit harder and bloody. But there isn't much that hasn't been done in this regard. All in all, the film has a very creative approach that could perhaps have been expanded even more. Since I really like anthologies in general, I was happy to have found a solid one again. BOOKS OF BLOOD is a little gem that is definitely worth looking at. By @deralthoff

  • Monsters At Work: A Flawed but Charming Expansion to Monsters Inc.

Reviews by: @ryan_the_nixon 2021 Number of seasons: 1 Number of episodes: 10 directors: Stephen Anderson, Kaitlyn Ritter, Kathleen Good, Shane Zalvin. Starring: Billy Crystal, Ben Feldman, Mindy Kaling, Henry Winkler, Lucas Neff, Alanna Ubach, John Goodman, Christopher Swindle, Jennifer Tilly, Bob Peterson, Bonnie Hunt etc Tyler Tuskman has just graduated from Monster's University at the top of his scare class and has been recruited at Monsters Inc. as a scarer. However, the day before he starts, Waternoose is canned. With Mike and Sully now in charge, the whole corporation is transitioning to a joke company. Tylor now needs to figure out how to become a jokester. I have to say, despite its flaws I had a lot of fun with this show. My first few positives would be the animation, the blend of new and original characters. The nostalgia, fun set up and character conflict. The animation was very strong for the show. It has definitely improved since the original film came out, it was colourful and fun, and the characters and their designs looked great. I also really liked the blending of the original characters and the new ones. It was great to see Mike, Sully, Roz, and Celia and some of the great supporting characters come back here. But the new cast of characters were also great so we could connect to a new bunch of monsters. They were very likeable. Tyler, Val, Fritz, Duncan, and Cutter all had their fun quirks to them, and I grew to love their characters as the series developed. The show also had a lot of nostalgia. It was a mixture of seeing the characters I grew up with again, the fun theme tune and being reintroduced to this fun world again. I thought the set up for the series was a lot of fun. having Tyler dreaming of becoming a scarer only for him to be thrown into the world of being a jokester was a great set up for the series. It introduced a lot of good character conflict as well. The internal conflict as Tylor was introduced to the mifters and his goal of becoming a jokester was the key conflict for most of the episodes. And it was explored well, and as his relationship with the characters grew that conflict got more difficult for his character. My next few positives would be the quick pacing, good worldbuilding, fun scenes. As well as the chemistry between the characters and the development to the plot and well-structured episodes. Each episode had very quick pacing, and this worked in the shows favour. The jokes and character moments kept on coming and it never once got boring. I also thought the worldbuilding was strong. This series expanded on the world of Monsters inc very well. Developing on how the facility works and exploring new characters and laugh power instead of scare power and it did a great job at adding onto what the previous movies developed so well. The film had a lot of fun scenes in the episodes where we got to see what the Mifters were and what they did for a job. The chemistry between the characters made the scenes chaotic and fun. And there were loads of fun side characters and supporting characters within specific episodes that were really entertaining and bought a lot of fun humour. I also thought the plot of the series developed well with well-structured episodes. Each episode had self-contained conflict, but always kept the strong through line of the Tyler’s goals throughout. So, you could have fun within the episode but also get to see the development to Tyler and his relationship with the characters grow. However, the show was far from perfect. There was a lot of rushed scenes with lack of character background. A lot of the conflict was too easily resolved. Some of the characters were annoying. The chaotic pacing worked at keeping the episodes entertaining, but in doing that they sacrificed depth to the episodes and characters. Never really allowing you to fully connect to a particular scene or character for a long period of time because they would move to the next scene so quickly and never let anything resonate even just for a little bit. It would have been nice to get more background to the Mifters and their lives. But even just with Tyler, he was the main character, and it would have been nice if he had some form of even basic level depth. His parents were in about 3 scenes overall, but it would have been nice if his home life was incorporated more. The conflict was also way too easily resolved in some episodes. I felt like a lot of the conflict being introduced in some episodes could have been dragged out in more episodes, so it was more effective. Instead, the characters just kind of brushed everything off like nothing happened and moved on which was slightly jarring. Finally, I did find certain characters very annoying to begin with. in particular Val and Fritz. They were just very loud and whiny and frankly just irritating. Especially Val, but luckily, they toned down her character and I grew to like her. My final few positives would be the character development, heart-warming finale, and great character arcs. The character development was strong for the show. As Tyler and his relationship with the Mifters grew stronger, he changed as a character and became less reckless with his decisions. I also really liked his friendship with Val which was explored, and it was heart-warming to see their friendship grow, particularly in the finale with how supportive she was of Tyler following his dreams. The finale itself was very sweet and heart-warming. it ended the show excellently, it felt the most focused episode of the series, and all the development and conflict between the characters was on full display. And as he became a jokester it didn’t feel like a goodbye with the Mifters. This meant that there were some great character arcs. As Tyler achieved his goal of becoming a jokester but also having new friendships and the side story with Val helping with the doors was also fun. My favourite episodes ranked: 1. It’s laughter They’re after (Episode 10) 2. Adorable Returns (Episode 7) 3. The Cover Up (Episode 5) 4. Bad Hair Day (Episode 9) 5. Little Monsters (Episode 8) 6. The damaged Room (Episode 3) 7. The Big Wazowski’s (Episode 4) 8. Meet Mift (Episode 2) 9. The Vending Machine (Episode 6) 10.Welcome to Monsters, incorporated (Episode 1) Overall, monsters at work is nothing revolutionary or amazing, and suffers from mediocre writing in places. But it’s a fun, entertaining and charming series. That expands on the monsters inc world excellently. Introducing us to some great new characters. I had a fun time watching it and would be open to another season. Overall score 79/100 By @ryan_the_nixon

  • The Lost City: A Shocking Triumph of a Rom Com

Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review Just got out of my showing of The Lost City as I wait around for my showing of Infinite Storm to start, I figured I would drop a quick review. I was going into this expecting a full on six out of ten movie and came out very pleased with how much I liked this. I haven’t had my face hurt from laughing at a movie in so long. Some movies like this fall into a trap of using their best jokes in the trailers to get people in, but this has so many hidden gem jokes throughout. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum are fantastic together. They turn in some of the best performances I’ve seen from them as they make their way through the jungle. The outfit Bullock is in for most of the movie is so ridiculous but she looks fantastic in it and it adds to some great gags throughout the movie. It is on loan after all. Daniel Radcliffe is a great actor, if you haven’t seen his work in Miracle Workers on TBS I would highly suggest you see that. Here though, he acts really well, he’s just not a good character. Brad Pitt is so funny here and I’m so glad they didn’t ruin the direction his character goes in the trailer. Da’Vine Joy Randolph gets hardcore sidelined and I really wish they had just included her in the jungle scenes with Bullock and Tatum, but what scenes she does have are great. Patti Harrison and Oscar Nuñez are in here as some fun and light characters that show up randomly here and there with some good jokes. HĂ©ctor AnĂbal is one of those rare henchmen characters that you actually like. I really enjoyed the history parts of this, I was expecting it to be the typical stuff but it wasn’t half bad and took a very nice stance on history hunting. I haven’t read too many of these romance novels that they make fun of, but my mom has and I think their commentary on it is very good. I think there is potential here for a sequel and I would absolutely love to see one. I had a lot of fun here and even if you end up not liking the story you’ll appreciate the jokes on display here. I’m giving The Lost City an 8/10, I’m genuinely excited for the physical copy to release so I can add this to my movie collection. If you’ve been waiting for a good rom com, this is the one. -Tyler. • Good: Politics Can Ruin Your Social Life

Reviews by: @theofficialreviewer 5/10 In 1930’s Germany, a professor is torn between his own political views of the Nazi Party and those of his friends and family. He gives up his reservations and receives a good position within the SS, not realizing the consequences his work will have. I enjoyed this one partially but I had some problems with it. First of all, Viggo Mortensen was the best part of the movie. He’s one of my favorite actors that I’ve seen recently and he continues to nail every performance. That being said, this movie is no exception. Jason Issacs is an actor I haven’t seen much of besides his role as Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter. He was good here too which prompts me to check out more of his work. Everybody else did alright, but their roles weren’t standout and pretty easily forgettable. Now what this movie revolves around, its theme, storyline and conflicts make it interesting and realistic, but still fail to impress me. The storyline was definitely creative and offered a WWII movie that wasn’t about the fighting, but about the people in Germany who got swept into Hitler’s war propaganda. It was a point of view that makes you feel so sorry for the main character, as he has no idea what he’s gotten himself into. The conflicts of the war and also the inner conflicts of our main character as he deals with so many stressful situations is hard to watch at times, but eye opening. The fact that this war actually happened and that it affected so many people both physically and emotionally make this movie all the more sad. Definitely a realistic film about the horrors of war. What I didn’t like about this movie was that we weren’t told much about our characters. They were just there. There was no character development, and definitely nothing in depth. The movie also lacks character motivation, why they are there, why are they doing this. It made it somewhat confusing at times. Also like I said earlier, besides Viggo and Jason, acting was alright, the actors didn’t make the characters come to life at all. It makes for an annoying experience when you don’t care about your supporting characters at all. They also don’t add anything to the story. Overall, a somewhat decent film with incredible acting from our two main characters, a creative and unique storyline, but not much depth throughout. By @theofficialreviewer

  • Everybody Wants Some: An Essential Coming of Age Movie

Reviews by: @filmcore98 Everybody wants some Is the spiritual successor to Dazed And Confused. Instead of High School Shifting the focus to an incoming group of Freshman College Baseball players and their introduction into the college lifestyle, competitive Baseball fraternity consisting of mostly older kids, and a bigger microcosm. Where as Dazed offered a very relatable cast of High School kids trying to set up the ideal party and hangout, everybody wants some expands the idea to the college setting a few days prior to classes starting. To a world where there doesn’t seem to be much else going on at all besides partying even once classes commence. The main character Jake a starting college Baseball pitcher, and probably the most charismatic character, considering the rest of the bunch seem to all be based off O’ Banion the town jerk of Dazed, and are for the most part even self admittedly aware of their own ignorance and over competitiveness as touched on in the film. Where as they even say this isn’t your small town high school anymore where your the big star this is college where everyone is out to make a name for themselves. The movie follows Jake’s few days before classes commence adjusting to the college atmosphere, chasing after girls, and breaking every fraternity rule set by coaches and having party after party at their house loaned to the team by the City, each getting bigger and bigger. As well as meeting new people, cruising the streets, and trying to prove himself to his team. The soundtrack is filled with late 70’s rock and early 80’s glam and funk music. The movie also doubles down as a period piece. As said before it’s pretty much a bigger badder Dazed And Confused, which is still the better movie imo. My only complaint is the lack of likable characters, minus the main character and maybe one or two others. Where as Dazed had a cast of relatable characters this movie presents more self absorbed and arrogant ones trying to prove a point. However I don’t think it takes away from it at all, the general feel good vibe boosters this. It’s an essential coming of age movie and still remains relevant to the college culture movement today. • Kenan: A Second Season that Still can't Find its Footing

Reviews by: @tylernerdy_review I didn’t realize Kenan wrapped its second season a few weeks ago, which I guess just goes to show how much I cared about it. It’s not bad, but it’s just so forgettable. NBC was obviously rushing to finish it when they started airing two episodes a week every week. This one made it to two seasons but like Fairview, I don’t think it’s coming back. They only had like two sets and used the hell out of them and only had characters with a single personality trait. Kenan Thompson is the standout of the show of course and he does well alongside the whole cast. Chris Redd is alright here but I think I like him on SNL more, same with Kenan. Poor guy can’t find a good gig outside SNL. Kimrie Lewis is alright but something about her is just so bland. Dani Lane and Dannah Lane are great child actresses and I can’t wait to see what they do with their careers. Don Johnson is pretty good and works well with Thompson and Redd. Taylor Louderman actually gets a few good scenes this season that made me like her character more. Jeff Lewis and Fortune Feimster are good workplace characters that don’t get the attention they deserve. Hayley Marie Norman and Maria Canals-Barrera were a great addition to the show and I wish we had more time to explore their characters. This show just never really felt like it knew were it was going and not every joke landed. I think it started getting a sense of direction with Kenan getting a girlfriend but then the show just ended. Of course, I think I would continue watching this show if they end up making a third season, I just ask they make their characters more relatable by giving them more traits. They’re just kinda boring. 6/10 on the second season of Kenan. -Tyler. By @tylernerdy_review

  • Body of Lies: Interesting, Adequate but Decidedly Average

Reviews by: @imo.movies Ridley Scott has Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe taking on terrorists in the Middle East in this fictitious CIA thriller. Is it bad? No. Is it great? Not particularly. ‘Body of Lies’ might just be the most consistent film I’ve ever seen. I felt exactly the same throughout the whole runtime - never bored but never totally enamoured. Between the talent of the of the cast and the momentum of the plot, there was always enough quality to maintain my interest but never enough to beg my emotional investment. Perhaps it’s also the most middling film I’ve ever seen too? I must say that my suspicions of Russell Crowe’s acting abilities being of a somewhat overrated nature are slowly being proven. However, that doesn’t mean to say his performance in this movie was insufficient or anything close to it. As for DiCaprio, who doesn’t love some DiCaprio? Films such as this are, I find, the most difficult ones to discuss, as I simply lack both positive and negative passion for any matters that can be discussed. For me, ‘Body of Lies’ definitely falls within the realm of mediocrity, but it does so on the better side rather than the poorer 😐 In my opinion, ‘Body of Lies’ is

  • Schindler’s List: Encapsulating the Best and Worst of Human Nature

Reviews by: @tvnerdaran Schindler’s List is one of the most emotionally powerful and deeply affecting films I’ve ever seen. Ever since I first watched it nearly four years ago, it has stayed in my consciousness ever since. It is truly one of the most important films ever made. The film is both beautiful and harrowing as it depicts both the best and worst aspects of human nature - monstrous mass murder and genocide (represented by Amon Goeth and the Nazis), and altruistic saving of lives (represented by Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern). The film is also extremely important as it, along with “Shoah”, helped preserve the memory of the Holocaust and the unspeakable horrors and evils that occurred in the public consciousness and pages of history. Through films like these, we will never forget what happened, and we must watch films such as these as a stark reminder as to what we can never allow to ever happen again. The film is deeply and emotionally affecting as it depicts the harrowing atrocities committed against the Jewish people during this horrific time period, and the monstrous evil of men such as Amon Goeth (played chillingly by Ralph Fiennes) as they sadistically revel in the torment and suffering they impose over their victims, but also the beautiful and courageous strength and humanity of men such as Oskar Schindler (played by Liam Neeson in one of cinema’s all-time greatest redemption arcs), and his Jewish assistant Itzhak Stern (played subtly and compassionately by Ben Kingsley) as they risk everything to save as many innocent people as possible from certain death at the hands of the Nazi regime. This film is perhaps the definitive portrayal of both good and evil in cinema, showing the endless extent of both. Fiennes’ performance as Goeth in particular stands out as perhaps the most evil and despicable character in the history of cinema (based horrifyingly on a real person who was even worse in real-life than depicted in the film) as he sadistically murders innocent Jews and torments his prisoners without any ounce of sympathy or remorse. Fiennes’ performance stood out in my head long after watching the film, and how he did not win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor that year is a complete and total mystery to me. This is perhaps the most emotionally powerful film I’ve ever seen with its depictions of good and evil, and the redemptive story of one man who started off as a greedy and devilish war profiteer, but then used his wealth and resources to save as many lives as possible after being exposed first-hand to the horrors of the Holocaust. This film fully deserves its well-earned status as one of the greatest and most important films ever made. Its historical significance is undeniable, and because of that, “Schindler’s List” is one of my favourite films of all time for very good reason. By @tvnerdaran

  • Fairview Season 1: An Off-Kilter Flop of an Opening Season

Reviews by: @tylernerdy_review Comedy Central attempted to start a new animated comedy this year with Fairview and it is not going to last. Don’t get me wrong, I kinda enjoyed it. But I haven’t seen ratings on a show this bad in a very long time. The highest rated episode is a 3.0. The lowest is a 1.6 I believe. The problem is they took satire and turned it up to an 11. It’s the most in your face comedy I have ever seen and none of the characters have many redeeming qualities. They have this big cast and I don’t even care to shout any of them out. It most definitely got better and better, the season finale being my favorite episode. But the first episode kinda sucks ass. The jokes are pretty good but there’s no nuance to them. Part of the reason it’s been reviewed so poorly is a lot of Republicans are very angry with it. “Woke propaganda shoving a liberal agenda down our throats” kinda thing. But they’re just mad because they are the butt of almost every single joke. A lot of the stuff they talk about are pretty outdated already. As our society increasingly only gives things attention for a week and moves on, most of the episodes revolve around something specific that’s already been parodied so many times that no one cares anymore. I think the character design is neat and the acting is fine. I would be interested in seeing more, I think this show has potential, they just need to find some footing and change some character traits around. I think if you’re bored and need something to put on this is a good, short, and funny option. At only 8 episodes you could fly through it. Just don’t expect much from the first (and likely last) season of Fairview. 5/10 from me. -Tyler. By @tylernerdy_review

  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Life in Rewind

Reviews by: @augustkellerwrites The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is excellent craft paired with emotional nuance. The film isn't overtly thrilling (some might even find it boring), but it contemplates heavy subjects with precise presentation. The story covers the memoirs of a man who ages backwards and, consequently, considers themes of change, fate, and loss from a new perspective. Brad Pitt's acting feels slightly monotonous, but that's because his outcast character is guarded. Plus, the remaining cast (specifically Blanchett, Henson, and Harris) counters Pitt's reserved manner with lively personalities. Their strong believability is key because these relationships are the film's core. Meanwhile, Fincher provides another technically flawless film. Benjamin Button is an ambitious project and the filmmaking rises to the challenge. The visuals are incredibly suggestive, using lighting, motion, framing, and color to subtly enhance physical and emotional atmospheres. The sound is rich with weather, city life, and conflict. The music elegantly sets the eras and tones. The aging effects are an elaborate highlight of the film. Lastly, the production design is vast, detailed, and multifaceted. Overall, these aspects elevate Benjamin Button beyond drama and into art. It may not entertain everyone, but this film will challenge all viewers to grow. Writing: 9/10 Direction: 10/10 Cinematography: 10/10 Acting: 9/10 Editing: 8/10 Sound: 9/10 Score/Soundtrack: 9/10 Production Design: 10/10 Casting: 9/10 Effects: 9/10 Overall Score: 9.2/10 For more of my work: https://guskeller.wixsite.com/moviefilmreviews By @augustkellerwrites

  • Morbius: A Mind Numbing, by the Numbers Super Hero Movie

    Reviews by: @tylersnerdy_review Well
here we are. Please don’t kill me. Sony finally stopped the push back game and released Morbius and
it’s not that bad. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not particularly a good movie. But it is good mindless fun that’s worth a watch if you’re a fan of Marvel. Jared Leto is not half bad here. I think he finds a good footing in this role and I would genuinely like to see more of him. Matt Smith does a really good job playing a sympathetic character that becomes a flat villain with no explanation as to why the power corrupts him and not Morbius. Adria Arjona has no purpose in this film other than to set up a future film. Jared Harris also has no purpose and just seems out of place. Seems like most of his lines were cut. Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson are a “fun” duo that you can tell were significantly altered in reshoots. Michael Keaton has been entirely removed from the film itself and saved for the post credit scenes, of which there are two. They are pretty decent and start the set up for Sony’s Sinister Six. The acting is good from everyone though, even if their characters are pointless. The VFX are decent, the score is great. The Easter eggs are meh, and the pacing is just down right awful. They spend a long time sitting up his powers and then just jump right into the final act with no hesitation. The fight scenes look really cool and I’d love to see how they play out when fighting a Spider-Man. This movie does one hundred percent take place in Venom’s universe and features a total zero Spider-Men. If you’ve seen just two trailers, you’ve essentially seen the whole movie as it offers no other hidden surprises beyond the post credits. But at the same time, a solid half of the footage in the trailers is just not in the movie. A lot of this film was ripped out and rearranged and edited and that becomes very obvious very early on in the film. Things happen simply because they need to happen and they expect you to forget it and move along to the next thing that needs to happen. So of course this is by no means a good movie but it is a fun movie that makes for a low level enjoyable time. I’ll be adding to my collection when the physical copy is out! 6/10. -Tyler. • Elite: Teenage Class Struggle

Reviews by: @cinetvin4parole Let's go back to talking about current TV series and specifically this Spanish production distributed on the Netflix platform since 2018 and currently in its fourth season. Directed by RamĂłn Salazar, Dani de la Orden as a genre we are on the teen-drama is the thriller since it all revolves around an initial murder. Overall, social issues (drugs, discrimination, crime) are treated in a strong way with a careful construction of the characters. A story that catches you right away, it has more stale phases but it fits for the type of linearity. The story revolves around a private Spanish high school, so we talk about high society, and the criticism that comes out is certainly not veiled: students who are not related to this "Elite" arrive at the school and obviously inequality is immediately put into prominence, the two realities meet and collide with irreversible consequences. The plot is captivating, each character as anticipated is well characterized and everything causes a growing interest in the viewer. We are light years away from adolescent series linked to sentimental problems, this is a more intense, profound product and at times also aimed at excess and exasperation. In the cast, as in many Spanish productions of recent times, we find the protagonists of "La casa di carta": MarĂa Pedraza (Marina), Miguel HerrĂĄn (Christian) and Jaime Lorente (Nano), but also the interpretations of Itzan Escamilla ( Samuel), Mina El Hamman (Nadia), ArĂłn Piper (Ander) and Ester ExpĂłsito (Carla) (we don't mention them all due to character limit); in the cast also the Mexican star Danna Paola (Lucrecia). It is certainly a TV series not to be missed, based like the "Paper House" on a class struggle, on the contradictions of today's society and social inequalities. Rating 7.5. By @cinetvin4parole

  • Snowpiercer: A Bumpy Season that Sticks the Landing in a Major Way

Reviews by: @tylernerdy_review Snowpiercer season three ended tonight and what an interesting journey this season has been. I have sang the praises of the first two seasons and I think I gave them a ten and a nine respectively. But this one has a few more bumps than I’ve come to expect from the show, BUT
I still love it very much and I will continue to sing its praises. Daveed Diggs Sean Bean and Jennifer Connelly all work so well together as the three main leaders going back and forth for control. This season mostly felt weird because of how much of it Connelly is absent for, but the connections Diggs and Bean make with other characters makes up for it. Mickey Sumner, Alison Wright, Iddo Goldberg, and Sheila Vand really make the season as they each get upped to have a significant part of the story now united for the whole season. Annalise Basso does great work to continually make me dislike her character, based on where we see her at the end of this episode I’m curious to see what role she plays in season four. Lena Hall is just so great. I loved her on season one, then she made me hate her in season two, and this season she made the climb back up to like again. Roberto Urbina, Katie McGuinness, Mike O'Malley, Karin Konoval, Miranda Edwards, and Sam Otto all do a great job with their characters this season, Otto even getting a good redemption arc. Rowan Blanchard has fantastic mother/daughter chemistry with Connelly that gets to shine very bright this season. Emma Oliver is such a great child actor and her poor character is caught between so much. Kwasi Thomas, Steven Ogg, and Sakina Jaffrey play great characters that are either very loyal or very shifty. Archie Panjabi was a great addition to the season but I don’t really like what they did with her. This show has such a great, diverse cast that tell really good character driven stories. The sets are still great but I want them to make some new ones, I’m getting tired of major events happening in the same four cars. The moments leading up to the final scene are very tense but set up the next season very well. But they leave us with the biggest cliff hanger so far, thank god season four is already in production. Snowpiercer Season three gets an 8/10. -Tyler. By @tylernerdy_review

  • Boxing Day: A Generic, But Joyful Christmas Film That Will Put A Smile On Your Face.

Reviews by: @ryan_the_nixon 2021 12A Director: Aml Ameen Starring: Aml Ameen, Aja Naomi King, Leigh Anne Pinnock, Tamara Lawrence, Stephen Dillane, Marianne Jean Baptiste, Sheyi Cole, Robbie Gee, Samson Kayo, Lisa Davina Phillip, etc. Boxing day follows Melvin, a British author living in America, who returns home to London for Christmas to introduce his American fiancée Lisa, to his eccentric British Caribbean family. Their relationship is put to the test as she discovers the world her fiancée has left behind. This was a great Christmas rom com. The cinematography was great. With some great themes on love, race and family that were handled in a respectful and interesting way. The performances from the whole cast were great. With key highlights being Aml Ameen, Aja Naomi King, Leighanne Pinnock, Tamara Lawrence and Michelle Rose. The whole cast also had great chemistry with each other. The film was very funny. Also, the character conflict and slow building of tension as the film developed was done strongly. With great representation for the British/Caribbean community with Melvin's family. The film was structured very well, it built up and developed different character conflicts and it all exploded in one big gathering. The characters were very likeable. With great linking between the different characters and plot points. I also thought that there was a good amount of character depth, with some great heartwarming moments and a satisfying ending. However, it was very formulaic and had some very predictable moments. And I felt like certain plot points felt unneeded and didn't really contribute anything towards the plot. Overall, boxing day won't win any awards for originality. But the strong chemistry between the cast, the great humour and its heart makes for a great Christmas rom com to watch for the holidays. Overall rating 81/100 By @ryan_the_nixon

  • Birds of Prey: Strong Female Empowerement

By @leituras.leo
